  I went in one SLOW weekday late afternoon to purchase a new pair of shoes. I asked the lady working in the shoe department if she could assist me (as she didn’t even acknowledge me). I would like to try on a pair of shoes in my size. Out of a “Pretty Woman” movie scene, she told me that REI doesn’t only sell one shoe. “I’m sorry. I don’t understand, can you clarify?” REI doesn’t only sell one shoe. They sell them in pairs. Okay? I’m thinking. I didn’t ask for one single shoe in my size but a pair. And why would she tell me this as I WALKED in using my two legs and two feet? Is it because I walked in with my leg brace? I waited 15 minutes thinking she was taking long because she was having a hard time finding my size. Nope, she just refused to service me. When a Caucasian couple walked in she readily & kindly asked if she could be assist them and did. Very different from how she treated me. I remained calm and again asked if she could assist me AFTER she helped the lady that came in much after me. She told me that I would be better suited looking for my size shoes in the clearance department. I told her that it is very rare to find size 5.5 or 6 on clearance but I’ll look and did. Instead of returning to beg for her assistance I left to Heart & Sole Sports, received non-discriminatory, biased or prejudice service and bought a pair of Brooks from them for $160.00. I am a member of REI and REI is where I purchase my camping gear and outdoor clothes but this experience left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I’m considering never giving my money to REI again. I know REI as a whole is not responsible for how their employee treated me but they are responsible for hiring this person as a representative of who they are. I walked in wearing my Meta AI glasses, my Apple Watch, my Visible tracking band, my Sherpani bag, my ASICS shoes on both feet, with a brace worth thousands as I am the first and only person in NM to have this custom computerized brace and I was talked to and treated as if I only had one foot and can’t afford their shoes. Lady, you’re a shoe sales person for God’s sake to have treated me like I was so beneath you. The picture is from Heart & Sole Sports not REI.

  I walked my bike in without an appointment and they had it tuned up with a new chain and pedals in 15 minutes. Very experienced and helpful bike mechanics.

  Just left REI. Their clothes are expensive you would think there would be decent people in the dressing room. I pushed the button the woman just looked at me. Took her sweet time getting me a room. And, told me to hang up my clothes in a snotty tone. As if REI is too good for their customers. To top it off, I got in the dressing room and she slammed the door. Scared me to death. Can’t believe how rude people are. Not a good representation of the company

  Today I went in desperately trying to spend money at REI ended up talking to Greg about hybrid or comfort bikes I showed him three bikes from the app he said that all three were discontinued and couldn’t be ordered. We were in a normal personal space that you would have a conversation. The guy is looking down at his phone never made eye contact. I had to keep asking him to repeat himself because he mumbles I don’t know if he’s shy or wasn’t trained to communicate well with customers?? So other than the towne ?? bicycle, REI isn’t carrying upright style bicycles I said I can’t believe that I’m the only geezer that is asking about a comfort bicycle he didn’t respond. I don’t know REI‘s training program as far as the floating employees but Greg was useless for any suggestions with the type of bike that I am after in closing I guess the search will continue at some other bike shop that may sell a hybrid cruiser/comfort style bike I’m looking for
