If I were reviewing my experience alone, I would give it 5/5. Molly was absolutely A-MAZING. She was receptive, attentive, thorough and lovely to talk to. She listened to what I wanted, happily tried every option I asked for and made the most of our time together without making anything feel rushed. The whole appointment was a pleasure, and the application was spot on. I loved the result so much that I bought one of the products. Thank you, Molly - you made it such a lovely experience.
Unfortunately, my 83-year-old aunt’s experience with Anna was very different.
I was there because my aunt had booked a colour application appointment. She had had an accident that required a hospital visit that same day, but she was so keen to attend that she arrived on time despite a bruised knee. Before she arrived, I had explained to Anna how much she was looking forward to it.
Having finished my lovely appointment with Molly, I was excited to watch my aunt enjoy hers.
My aunt’s existing eyeshadow was badly smudged as she was rushing to make it on time. Several minutes into the appointment, it still hadn’t been cleaned, making it difficult to appreciate the new colours. While Anna went to collect samples, I tried to help tidy it up. On returning, she stopped me in a way I found abrupt and defensive. I stepped back, expecting her to address it, but she continued without clearing the smudging.
My aunt was shown very few options. The dark shades weren’t to her taste, and she asked for brighter colours and more choice. Rather than exploring her preferences, Anna turned to me, seemingly seeking agreement with her choices. I explained that I didn’t think the colour suited my aunt either. The whole appointment felt rushed and lasted well under ten minutes.
When asked about her experience, Anna said she had been doing this for years and was going for a promotion. Given how unheard my aunt seemed to be, that comment stayed with me. I would expect attentive, considerate customer service from someone seeking greater responsibility.
I cannot say whether my aunt’s age influenced how she was treated, but she deserved to feel listened to and welcome. She had made a considerable effort to attend something she was genuinely excited about. A little warmth and attention could have made this a lovely experience. Sadly, we left disappointed.
