Google Review We recently checked out of this hotel one day earlier than planned because, by that point, we simply couldn’t imagine staying for another night. For a hotel presenting itself as 5-star, our experience was unfortunately very disappointing. It started when we arrived. We weren’t offered a welcome drink, which was surprising for a 5-star hotel, especially since we later learned that the minibar drinks were complimentary and Prosecco was available at breakfast. We were then unexpectedly asked for a 450 CHF deposit, even though our stay was fully prepaid and this requirement was not mentioned when we booked. When we entered the room, it was clearly not properly cleaned. There was a full trash bag on the balcony, hair on the supposedly fresh sheets, and crumbs on the chairs. We were also told we had been upgraded to a “Deluxe Room,” only to discover that we had actually been given the Superior Room we originally booked. Then we discovered that the shower was completely clogged, with water running toward the door. We reported it to reception, but the issue was essentially ignored. My husband had to complain again the following day and then go back a second time before someone was finally sent to look at it. Even after the technician came, the shower was still clogged. As someone who has worked in hospitality, I found the lack of care particularly disappointing. I understand that things can go wrong, but what matters is how a hotel responds. Cleanliness and hygiene should not be things guests have to complain about, and when they do, their concerns should be taken seriously. There were also smaller details that contributed to the overall feeling: fake flowers at the lobby and restaurant entrances and completely bare balconies with only two chairs and a table. Individually these may seem minor, but for a hotel claiming to be 5-star, it’s the attention to detail that makes the difference. The gentleman who checked us out was genuinely kind and understanding. He listened to our concerns and made sure we weren’t charged for the drinks we had consumed at dinner. We truly appreciated that gesture. The Lady who checked us in was the complete opposite. Unfortunately, one positive interaction at the end could not make up for the overall experience. This was nowhere near the standard we would expect from a 5-star hotel, and sadly, we will not be returning. As a person who has worked in Hospitality, I feel truly sad that this Hotel brands itself as a 5 Star. Nowhere near it...

Our stay was overall enjoyable, and the hotel has a lot going for it. The architecture and atmosphere are beautiful, the common areas feel spacious and well thought out, and the whole place has a very contemporary feel. We also appreciated how easy it was to enjoy the hotel with a child, especially thanks to the different activities and spaces available. The location is another strong point. Davos is a great destination for a family stay, with plenty to do both indoors and outdoors, and the hotel works well as a base for exploring the area. There were, however, a few moments that took away from what could otherwise have been a very good experience. The service sometimes felt a little inconsistent: most employees were genuinely kind, while a few interactions came across as unnecessarily rigid for a luxury hotel. We would have appreciated a bit more flexibility and a more relaxed approach. One incident in particular was very uncomfortable. A very tall housekeeping employee wearing glasses apparently thought that nobody was in the room and was looking through the pockets of a pair of my trousers. I noticed him doing it, and when our eyes met, he realised that I had seen him. Regardless of what he was looking for or what the circumstances were, this should never happen in a guest room and it left us feeling quite uneasy about the privacy of our belongings. We also noticed that some small details were not quite at the level expected from a 5-star property; nothing dramatic individually, but things that become noticeable when you expect a consistently high standard throughout the stay. We enjoyed our time here and can see why the hotel is popular, particularly for families. With a little more consistency in service and much stricter attention to guest privacy, it could be a truly exceptional place.

+ the staff was very friendly and welcoming, we felt valuable (exceptions below) + the premises are very new and in good condition, nothing was falling apart (exceptions below) + breakfast is very rich, complimentary minibar and the coffee machine was really nice details + spa is clean, relaxing and warm + Davos is not so hot in the summer, so heated pools make very much sense + kids club, mini club, outdoor parks are child friendly (not the restaurants, though) mini club caregivers was very professional, speaking multiple languages + tap water is really of high quality and low in hardness (2-12 °fH) - we received some warnings from the staff that injures the 5 star hotel customer experience (“do you know that we have kids club downstairs?” - when our son refuses the kids club and make some noise in the rooftop bar. “Do you know that this is a limited availability?” When we asked for 1/2 hour delay to the return shuttle service. “Maybe you can try the Nuts & Co bar, so the child can also run freely” - when we already tried it and wanted to have dinner in the Sapori Restaurant) - the room was not perfectly clean - there are hairs on the floor and we asked them to clean the floor again, they cleaned only the room and the balcony, the hairs on the bathroom stayed. I think they don’t “mop” the floors. The desktop surfaces were also dusty. The kids club were a bit dusty. Maybe we are a bit picky - very low wi-fi and cellular coverage in the kids club (major problem, not mentioned to the staff) - the coffee machine in the room was leaking (minor fault, not mentioned) - the AC was blowing ice cold and cannot be turned warm or completely off (minor fault, not mentioned) - in the middle of the night our door was consistently knocked and it was a child who mistakes their room (not the fault of the hotel, obviously)

The AlpenGold Hotel in Davos, now part of IHG’s luxury collection, certainly stands out with its striking architecture and spectacular hillside location overlooking the town. Unfortunately, once inside, the property reveals its age. Formerly the InterContinental Davos, the hotel is in desperate need of a comprehensive renovation, particularly the guest rooms, which feel dated and no longer meet the standards expected of a luxury property. During our stay, we dined at the Italian restaurant for dinner and returned for breakfast. The food was decent, but the service deserves special recognition. Roberto, our server, demonstrated excellent professionalism and great potential, while Melina, the hostess, impressed us with her warm hospitality and outstanding customer service skills. They were highlights of our experience. A major drawback—and one that should be clearly noted by American travelers—is that the hotel does not provide air conditioning anywhere in the property during the summer months. Given today’s expectations for luxury accommodations, this is simply unacceptable. Even with Davos’ generally cooler climate, the lack of any cooling system made the stay uncomfortable. While the hotel’s location and architecture remain impressive, they are not enough to compensate for its outdated condition and absence of proper climate control. Until a significant renovation is undertaken, I cannot recommend this property and, personally, I will not be returning.

Misleading booking confirmation, dirty rooms, and broken promises I booked a 2-night stay at AlpenGold Davos in July 2026 through a DeinDeal voucher. Before purchasing, I contacted the hotel directly and received that the voucher was valid, along with booking. Upon arrival, front desk staff accepted the voucher and checked us in. The next day, management suddenly claimed the voucher was "not for their hotel" and demanded full payment for the second night. Despite having their written confirmation, they refused to take any accountability for their own mistake or for DeinDeal's misleading branding. We were forced to pay significantly more than the agreed amount. Cleanliness: The room was dirty upon arrival and the floor was clearly not cleaned for multiple days. For a hotel claiming 5-star status, this is unacceptable. Service failures: Staff promised a tent for our child in the room — we asked multiple times and were repeatedly told "later," but it never arrived. The management's handling of this situation was unprofessional and dishonest. This is not Swiss hospitality, and it certainly does not meet 5-star standards. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone seeking reliable, quality service in Davos.
