Absolutely gross. We were told we were being upgraded to a room with jacuzzi. They didn’t mention that it came with a dirty razor and reading glasses on the jacuzzi as well. They came and cleaned it, but after a long day it would have been nice to relax in the room we paid for. When I went to take a shower the next morning I would multiple head and pubic hairs in the shower.
So nasty and not clean. Wasn’t expecting a fancy room, but a clean one would have been more than fine.
I would not recommend to anyone.

During our stay, there was not only a bat flying around in the enclosed pool area that we were told “he just lives here”.. and then mice in the hallways, we ended up finding blood on the bedding. Sheets, comforter, duvet cover etc. Multiple pieces.
When we contacted the front desk they said it would be replaced, and they brought us one sheet and a thin brown almost throw like blanket.
I then took the bedding up to the desk myself to show how much bedding it was on and see about having it all replaced, and after it being rushed off to the laundry room, they sent someone else back out with another thin brown blanket.
The person working the desk informed me they had no backup bedding and this was all that they had to offer.
We then were given a number and name for a manager to call to handle the situation for us, because she was able to assess and also see the blood on all pieces of bedding and was very apologetic.
After calling to speak with management, he told me he has been too busy and had no idea what I was talking about (even though I was told this was fully noted and bedding left out for him for when I called).
Needless to say, they have zero intention to worry or care about the fact that either an employee had gotten blood on all pieces of the bedding (in different spots - not just bled through in one area), or that the bedding hadn’t actually been changed.
The manager just sat silent when being asked about it. He was very dismissive and rude.
I absolutely did not get the stay that I paid for. Was hoping for a relaxing night after a long trip.
Extremely disappointed
I wish I could give 0 star.
I stayed at this hotel on August 1, 2026, and unfortunately had a very disappointing and painful experience.
While opening the refrigerator in my room in a completely normal way, my finger was caught between the refrigerator handle and a sharp wooden edge inside the cabinet. The design leaves almost no clearance, causing immediate severe pain, bruising, and swelling.
The next morning, I reported the incident to the hotel manager, Emil. I showed him a video explaining exactly how the injury happened and pointed out the hazardous design. Instead of expressing any concern or investigating the issue, he immediately blamed me and said I simply didn’t know how to open a refrigerator door.
To make matters worse, I checked the refrigerator in another guest room and found that it was installed differently. The handle in that room was positioned much lower, leaving enough clearance to avoid this hazard. This shows that a safer design already exists within the hotel, making the dangerous setup in my room both unnecessary and preventable.
Rather than taking the safety concern seriously, Emil asked us to leave the lobby and even threatened to call the police if we didn’t. I was shocked by the lack of professionalism, empathy, and customer service.
My biggest concern is not only how I was treated, but that this design could easily injure another guest. I sincerely hope the hotel addresses this safety hazard before someone else gets hurt.
A hotel can make mistakes, but how it responds to a guest who has been injured says everything about its commitment to safety and customer care. Unfortunately, my experience showed neither.

Booked a trip to Mackinac Island for 3 nights and ended up here after our original hotel (Days Inn Bridgeview) turned out to be a complete dump. This property has a great location—close to restaurants, bars, and the ferries. Our room was decent: nice view, mostly clean, but definitely dated. Breakfast was typical hotel fare, nothing memorable, and finding seating for a family of five was a challenge.
One of the highlights was relaxing on the balcony with a drink after a long day exploring Mackinac and watching the kids play on the beach.
Unfortunately, the 1-star rating is entirely due to the lack of hospitality and management response. On the third morning of our stay, we woke up to heavy smoke from the Canadian wildfires and an AQI of 350—dangerous for anyone, especially kids. Many guests were packing up and leaving. When I informed the front desk that we were cutting our stay short due to the hazardous air quality, they refused to refund the unused night even though we were well before checkout.
So we paid $300 for a night we didn’t stay, during a clear extenuating circumstance. Management could have easily done the right thing—refund, partial credit, or even a future stay credit—but chose not to. I requested a call from the manager and, unsurprisingly, never received one.
It’s funny: I travel frequently for work, stay at BW+ and Marriott properties, and have never had an issue getting refunded when projects end early and reservations need to be cut short.
As a result, we won’t be staying at this hotel—or any Best Western—again. And judging by the copy‑and‑paste owner responses on other reviews, it’s obvious management doesn’t care. If you’re going to auto‑reply to every review, at least put some effort into it. Maybe use the $300 you kept from us to pay someone to write real responses.
This place was **vile**. If you’re a nonsmoker—or simply enjoy breathing fresh air—do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
Our first room absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. It was so bad that the manager came up and confirmed it himself, and we were moved to another room. Great… except our second-floor room overlooked the first floor, where guests were happily smoking away right outside their rooms.
So, on to room number THREE.
The third-floor room was somewhat better, but it was hard to enjoy the “lake view” when every time you opened the door, you were greeted by a wall of cigarette smoke. I also made the rookie mistake of leaving my suitcase open in the room. I spent part of the next day at a laundromat washing perfectly clean clothes just to get the smoke smell out of them. Nothing says “relaxing vacation” quite like an emergency laundry day.
I do want to give credit where it’s due: **Jay at the front desk was extremely kind and genuinely tried to help.** He reminded other guests about the hotel’s nonsmoking policy and seemed to be doing what he could. Unfortunately, calling this property “nonsmoking” is almost comical when there are large industrial-style ashtrays placed around the property. Clearly, the policy exists more on paper than in practice.
And then there was the beach. This part isn’t necessarily the hotel’s fault, but there were so many people—including guests and what appeared to be employees—smoking weed on the beach directly outside the rooms that we didn’t even bother going near the water.
Three rooms, cigarette smoke, marijuana smoke, and a bonus trip to the laundromat. Not exactly the getaway we had in mind.
The best view at this hotel was the one in the rearview mirror when we left.
