I was completely shocked by the behavior of the manager here and I would highly recommend never staying at this hotel. My husband and I had a bit of a horrific honeymoon the last week. We found bed bugs in not one but two of the hotels that we had booked during our road trip. We were treated very well by the manager at the other establishment, given a full refund, and while we still posted the review due to the uncleanliness and unprofessionalism of the staff we dealt with on-site, they handled the resolution quite well. The manager here, however, was the worst provider of customer service I have ever encountered. Firstly, I've worked in customer service for 10 years. So I am not a Karen and I know how to treat clients well. We arrived at the hotel around 11:00 and immediately did our bed bug check. I've had them twice so I am very vigilant and careful now. We found a bed bug mattress protector which was a bad sign since usually only hotels with a bug problem have them. Once we lifted up the mattress, we found bug debris along the box spring on the headboard side. We immediately went downstairs to request another room, but they were booked. So we sat in the car to decide whether it was worth decontaminating from bed bugs in order to get a good night's sleep or whether we should drive several hours to the next town. Around midnight we decided it was worth the drive to not take such a risk, so we immediately checked out and went to another Best Western location in Dodge city. They were awesome, very apologetic for what we went through and even let us check the room before we paid. Their room was super clean, and nope, no bed bug cover. The following 2 days I called the front desk at the hugoton hotel several times for a refund. The front desk agents kept telling me they left messages with the manager but she never called me back. Then I received an email from Expedia that the manager had denied my refund request as she found no evidence of bed bugs. We were in this room all of 10 minutes, had concerns of bed bugs and cleanliness, and then took our business to another hotel in the same company. So quite frankly her opinion on the status of the room shouldn't even be relevant. But I had no problem providing videos of exactly what we found. I emailed both her and Expedia this evidence and reiterated the hardship that this put us through. We had to drive for hours, we had to pay more for a different hotel room, and we lost half a night's sleep. We were tired and stressed and should never have had to gone through something like that on our honeymoon. The managers' response was the most snide thing I have ever seen (and also one of the most grammatically incorrect as well). She refused to apologize for our experience at all. She doubled down and claimed that what we found was 'hair and lint'. Lint is not multicolored or shaped like bug shells and bed bug feces. I've had them twice. Also, she admitted that there was a ton of hair which is unclean and gross but apparently perfectly fine by her standards. She then informed me every room always had a bed bug cover, which I highly doubt since the other Best Western we visited did not have any bed bug covers (we were given the opportunity to view several rooms before picking which one we wanted and none of them had one). She then claimed that I and my husband did this purposefully for a refund- she said she knows 'this inspection is what you do'. I'm assuming she's referring to the fact that we posted a public review about the other hotel on my same Google account I emailed her from. Yes, because we all know that on ones honeymoon you love to lose sleep, be stressed, and lose money by scrambling to find another hotel room in the middle of the night. What a money making ploy 🙄 geeze Louise. She doubled down on her disrespectful and snide attitude by thanking us for our business with her (obviously referring to the fact she would not be issuing as a refund and would therefore get to keep our business/money). I have never spoken to anyone so awful, and now must dispute the charge.
