Great location with some great views over the lake. So glad I got a lake view room! There is an awesome white swan that visits along with tons of birds and other wild life. Extremely peaceful and calming hanging on the porch. All of the housekeepers are friendly along with all of those who work at the front desk. Had such an enjoyable experience that we added another night to our stay! Wish they had a hot tub but the pool is pretty large thankfully. Also within walking distance of a few restaurants and fast food options! And of course 10 minutes from the dunes!

I honestly have no idea how this place has 4 stars. At this point, I’m convinced some of the reviews were written by people whose last hotel experience was sleeping in a lawn shed.
The rooms look clean from a distance, but that’s part of the magic trick. Once you actually spend time in them, you start noticing the mildew smell in the carpet and the overall feeling that housekeeping and maintenance may have quietly broken up years ago.
The real adventure begins when you check the ice situation. There was visible mold inside the ice bucket, and mold all over the ice machine. After seeing that, I decided dehydration was the safer option because I didn’t want to imagine what the inside of the machine looked like.
The only reason this review isn’t completely negative is because the front desk attendant was fantastic—friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, great customer service can only do so much when you’re fighting a losing battle against mold.
If you’re looking for a hotel, I’d recommend bringing low expectations, a flashlight, and perhaps a hazmat suit. If you’re looking for a great front desk employee, they’ve got one of those.

We’ve stayed here multiple times now, which probably says a lot on its own. Check-in and check-out have always been smooth and hassle-free. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and we usually choose the lake view—which has never disappointed. Watching the sunset over the water is a great way to end the day.
One of the things we really like is the location. It’s a short drive to Indiana Dunes State Park and the National Lakeshore, and there are plenty of restaurants, stores, and other conveniences nearby. Parking has always been easy as well.
The rooms and bathrooms feel updated and were consistently clean. The front desk team and housekeeping staff have also been friendly and helpful every time we’ve stayed.
A funny detail that may not be for everyone—but we actually enjoy hearing the trains in the distance at night. The occasional train horn somehow adds to the atmosphere rather than taking away from it.
We also enjoyed the pool and appreciated having a gym with a good selection of equipment. That said, both areas could use a little refreshing—they have a lot of potential with some extra attention.
Breakfast was decent overall, although adding a few more choices would make it even better.
For the price, we’ve had consistently good experiences here and would gladly stay again whenever we’re back in the area.
Quite Lakeside Hotel Just Outside Chicago
While the hotel was being renovated while we were there, we still had a great quiet and comfortable stay. Room was clean and comfortable with a small balcony. Lots of areas to sit along the lake and relax. Indoor pool and sauna as well.
Free breakfast in the morning was very good and included a unique yogurt machine. At the front of the property it appears there is a banquet facility, so this would be a relaxing location for an event.
Will definitely stay here again, and I look forward to see the completed renovations. About 40 minutes to Chicago and just minutes to the Indiana Dunes National Park.
We have been staying at this hotel every summer for approximately 7-8 years and have really enjoyed it. It is in close proximity to the Indiana Dunes State Park and to a grocery store, gas station, and restaurants. The rooms are clean, the staff is helpful, and a breakfast is provided. We enjoy getting a room with a view of the lake/bird sanctuary.
