  If you’ve been to Kodiak you know hotel options are limited. The Best Western is one if the more popular options due to its proximity to the docks where you can access the fishing charters. So for that they get 5 stars. After that it goes downhill rapidly. The staff is polite and helpful as are most folks in Kodiak. The rooms are your typical hotel rooms and are big enough and the beds are comfortable. However we had issues with our AC. First off the “built-in” AC wasn’t working so they installed a roll-around portable unit which couldn’t keep the room cool. They had jury rigged the exhaust hose with a dryer hose and used duct tape to secure it to the unit and the exhaust port on the wall. The dryer hose was metallic and would get very hot to the touch. We had to call maintenance twice to reapply duct tape as the unit separated from the hose and was dumping hot air into the room. Even when that was fixed the hot hose was radiating heat in the 90-100 degree range slowly heating the room. Fortunately we were there in the fall so we opened the window to cool the room. However it can be loud with cars out on the main street going by. Our next issue was maid service. For some reason they would not service our room if we were in it. They didn’t even knock on the door to ask if we needed anything. Normally housekeeping would come back, but not here. Even when we weren’t in the room they didn’t service the room and that was after we asked the front desk for housekeeping. We had 2 out of 6 nights of service. Truly pathetic. Makes you wonder how sanitary the hotel really is. Another issue one night was the restaurant POS system was down and they could only take cash but their ATM was also down. They advertise a hot tub but that was non-functional and we were told that it was because they couldn’t get the sanitation chemicals (which felt like a lame excuse). The free breakfast is decent, but won’t knock your socks off. They also have a Burger and Brew night on Thursday’s that is a pretty good deal. Overall the property shows some wear and tear but it appears that they are doing some remodeling. Sadly it’s about the only game in town other than the Compass Suites which looks like it’s owned by the same people. It is newer and does look nicer. I’d suggest trying that place first. Hopefully they will try to do better but until then avoid this place.

  They screwed up, I booked a two bed room and they gave me one. It's also interesting that once they saw the bad review that room service stopped

  Horrible. The hotel is outdated. Hot as a sauna. No AC. Couldn't sleep at all. Avoid as much as you can.

  Nice place in a remote location (Kodiak) housekeeping did a nice job. Building is aging out.

  Hotel is very dated. Hallways smell of heavy perfume/air freshener. Carpets worn and the entire hotel needs updating. Toilet was very slow to flush, shower curtain will not stay closed (position of curtain in photo is where the shower curtain slides to, no matter how many times you shut it), thus getting water all over the bathroom floor. The bathroom door will not shut or lock. ( because I was traveling with my nephew, I had to announce I was going to the bathroom/shower so that no one accidentally walked in on me). I took video but this app will only allow photos. Shower was unfinished. The Breakfast was good, nice views, nice selection of breakfast item. Unlike other reviewers, the front desk staff was nice and attentive. However on our second day none of our room keys worked and we did have to go back to have them re-programmed.
