Struttura politica del Comune
È l’organo esecutivo del Comune e, nell’ambito del Comune ticinese, è il potere più antico, composto da cittadini che vi esercitano i diritti civili. È un organo collegiale chiamato per legge ad amministrare il Comune, legittimato a prendersi cura della cosa pubblica, prendendo tutti i provvedimenti di sua competenza a tutela degli interessi della comunità locale. Il Municipio di Chiasso si compone di 5 Municipali ed è presieduto dal Sindaco, figura che ricopre non solo il ruolo di primus inter pares con mere prerogative d’onore, bensì carica contraddistinta da specifiche ed innumerevoli competenze. Compiuta l’elezione del Sindaco per scrutinio popolare, all’inizio di ogni quadriennio amministrativo, il Municipio, riunito in seduta costitutiva, nomina fra i propri membri il Vicesindaco ed istituisce i dicasteri attribuendoli ai singoli Municipali, in modo da suddividere l’apparato amministrativo con lo scopo principale di agevolare l’esame degli oggetti di propria competenza.
