The Joseph V. Grimstead, Sr. Seatack Recreation Center has been serving the historic Seatack community of Virginia Beach since 1988. The community center includes a six-lane indoor pool with lap lanes and a diving board, a fitness area, a multipurpose gymnasium, and the only indoor rock climbing wall in the park system. The multi-purpose room is available to rent for parties and small events with up to 47 people.
In 2012, the center was named for Joseph V. Grimstead, Sr., a leader in the Seatack community and founder of the Seatack Volunteer Fire Department, which was the nation’s only all-black fire department at the time of its formation.
