Gorgeous course at the pace of an injured snail. Prozac should be a pre-req.

Absolute treat of a course. It was in tremendous shape and every staff member I interacted with couldn’t have been nicer. Kevin and Joe were cleaning my clubs before I could fully stop my cart and Ron was absolute class, A+ starter. Highly recommend, will definitely be back.

August 1st, 2026 8:43 tee time.
The course was in okay condition, but the greens were pretty bumpy and slow.
It was beautiful out there, but there were maintenance crews all over the fairways, sometimes 20 people deep, slowing play down. On top of that, they had people asking for donations at one of the holes and expecting golfers to stop and listen to a 10 minute presentation about why they should donate.
Yet somehow, we were the ones constantly being rushed by the rangers. They literally followed us around for six or seven holes and made the entire round uncomfortable and awkward. It honestly felt like the course was more interested in collecting money than providing an enjoyable experience.
We normally play a round in about 3 hours and 45 minutes. The tee time ahead of us had canceled, so there was plenty of open space in front of us. Not once did the group behind us have to wait on us or push us to the next hole.
Three different times, we were told there was nobody within two holes ahead of us, even though we could clearly see golfers up there. The final straw was when the ranger came over and told me, my 12-year-old son, and the father and son paired with us that we were “slower than all get-out.”
I will never—and I mean NEVER—spend another dollar at a Robert Trent Jones golf course.
We had a completely different experience playing the Sea Pines courses. The atmosphere there was much more welcoming and enjoyable. My son and I spent around $500 between the two of us, only to have the entire experience ruined by the way we were treated.

My wife and I recently played the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes while visiting Hilton Head. We paid approximately $448 after tax for the two of us, including rental clubs. At that price point, we expected a premium resort golf experience. Unfortunately, that isn't what we received.
There were some positives. The layout itself is enjoyable, and most of the fairways were in decent condition, although several areas were patched or awaiting repair.
The problems began before we even teed off. The rental clubs were extremely old and worn—far below what I'd expect for a $65 rental at a resort of this caliber.
Our golf cart had a non-functioning parking brake. I reported it to the starter, who acknowledged the problem and mentioned the carts were scheduled to be replaced soon. That didn't help us during our round, as we had to constantly park on level ground or turn the wheels to keep the cart from rolling.
The tee boxes were also disappointing. On one hole, my wife literally had to tee her ball up from bare dirt. Many others were uneven with thin turf and weeds.
The biggest issue, however, was the greens. They were, without question, the poorest greens I've ever played—including courses charging less than half the price. They were extremely slow. The speed of the greens became a running joke within our foursome.
In fact, our playing partners had another Palmetto Dunes round scheduled later in the week and told us they planned to cancel after seeing the condition of this course.
I understand that golf courses go through maintenance and weather-related challenges. If the greens are not representative of the experience guests expect, that should be communicated before charging full resort pricing. Had I known the condition of the course beforehand, I would have chosen to play elsewhere.
I contacted Palmetto Dunes privately after our round to give them the opportunity to address these concerns before posting a public review. Unfortunately, I never received a response.
Based on our experience, I simply can't recommend playing the Robert Trent Jones Course in its current condition.
