  I had a disappointing and discriminating experience at this REI while shopping for an e-bike. When I asked to test ride an REI Co-op e-bike, an employee named Dave immediately told me I wouldn't be able to handle it. I explained that I had already test ridden other e-bikes, including the Trek FX+ 1S and Aventon Level 3, and had visited other local bike shops without any concerns being raised. Instead of listening, he dismissed my experience and made comments suggesting that because I am a woman and small in stature, I could not safely handle the bike. Even after I explained that I have experience with Class 2 and Class 3 e-bikes, ride motorcycles and mopeds, he continued to question my abilities. Only later did he attempt to frame his comments as store policy, but there is a clear difference between explaining policy and making discriminatory remarks based on gender and appearance. I left feeling dismissed and stereotyped rather than helped. This experience was not what I expected from REI, a company that promotes inclusivity and respect. I hope management addresses this so future customers are treated more professionally.

  First, the good stuff. Friendly staff, large selection of product, easy process to place an order for product that is unavailable in your desired color/size. The not so good stuff relates to the store layout (it's hard to find products), the height of hanging bars (it's difficult to reach products on the higher rod), and minimal number of dressing rooms. None if these are reason enough not to go, just irritations that can be dealt with.

  I had such an amazing experience at REI yesterday and wanted to give a huge shoutout to Kim and Rafael. I stopped in on my way to an event in a bit of a bind, asking if they happened to sell safety pins. Kim was incredibly kind and helpful — even though she wasn’t sure, she immediately got on the walkie to ask around the store. Rafael responded and went completely above and beyond by bringing me TWO safety pins from his own personal stash. Seriously, such a class act. They absolutely did not have to do that, but their kindness and willingness to help turned my stressful moment around. Although it wasn’t an RE product, you can just tell they care deeply about helping people and go above and beyond for their customers every day. I’m so grateful for both of them and would honestly come back to REI just to shop with Kim and Rafael again. Thank you both!
