  I was shopping for footwear, and both reps that assisted me were relaxed, knowledgeable, supportive, and efficient. They used their phone to see their inventory, so there was not the typical waiting to see if your size was available. I did not find what I needed there because of my foot issue, but was helped to see their online options. I ended up getting something from their "Returned" rack at a nice discount. Store was organized and pleasant, and had a restroom.

  8/29/26. We usually have great experience with REI store. Today is different, as my husband and child was yelled at for trying a kid’s bike for my 5yr old. When we tried talking with the staff, we felt like or concerns were dismissed and we were told that 5 wks ago there is some incident leading to a kid getting hurt. Which is fine, so we then ask if it would be better if there is a sign to tell the customers that ask for help. She said there is but when we pointed out that there wasnt, she then told us, she does not know bec it was not her assigned area. I wish the mngt could train staff better at handling this matter. We cannot buy our kids another bike if from trying it we parents will get yelled at. Not recommending this store for parents looking to buy bikes for their kids. Not family friendly, definitely poor communication skills with customer experience.

  My mother and I shop here all the time. She always brings her service animal in and the other day while shopping for over an hour another dog in the store became aggressive toward my mother and her service dog while quite far apart. An employee bombarded my mother accusing her dog of "trying to start a fight" and told her she had to leave immediately. The manager was called over and after trying to explain to them her service dog and what happen, noticeably she was in emotional distress, they let my mother stay and purchase the things she had. This all could of been avoided if businesses trained there staff accordingly and didn't accused people. Asking the 2 ADA questions and not being one sided would be a good start. Verbally attacking an older woman with her service animal is uncalled for and we wont be back.

  Went to the Albany REI to purchase a water bottle filter. The first associate readily admitted he didn't know anything about the products. The best he could do was scan the barcode and read the information off the website (that was printed on the packaging I was holding). Then when I went to pay, the woman at the cash register said I "couldn't use the member rewards" because the name on the account didn't exactly match my name (which, she never even asked me for). BS considering the account is in my wife's name and I had the physical rewards card.

  REI is a different kind of store than some people may expect. I’ve been an REI member for over 20 years, and my only real recent complaint has been that corporate closed two downstate stores in extremely busy locations—probably because of rent. The ReSupply section is one of my favorite parts of REI, and I’ve shopped it at several stores throughout the eastern U.S. I wish this location had a larger selection, but I still found everything I needed and plenty of great ReSupply treasures. Every employee I spoke with was respectful, professional, and personable. It sounds like the store had some growing pains when it first opened, so I think it’s worth giving them a little grace. Getting angry at employees accomplishes nothing. If there’s something you’d like to see improved, just say so respectfully. I’m really glad this store is here. The checkout area on the right was a little confusing, and the sales floor could use a few more merchandise racks to better fill the space. Hopefully they’ll take customer feedback to heart. I’ll definitely be back.
