We chose to stay at the Golden Nugget because it was allegedly the cheapest option, however once we got there we were slammed with parking fees, a service fee(??) for the pool and casino and general hotel services which we figured were included in the price of the hotel already? Our mistake. The whole place felt like a money grab and wasn’t worth it to us. Rooms were nice, definitely not worth the steep price though. Wouldn’t recommend for a short stay.

Ended up staying here during a major renovation. Not a word about the renovations on line, or was it ever mentioned at check in!!! Everything was closed, except for their most expensive restaurant...the steakhouse. Everything else, boarded up, closed off, and only ONE PUBLIC BATHROOM open in the whole casino. Room keys stopped working after ONE USE, forcing you to go back to the registration desk to have your keys re-coded. Not joking. Use the key, get in the room, leave the room to get more items out of your car, and your key is worthless. Have to drag all your items to the check in desk, stand in line AGAIN, just to get your key reprogrammed once again. Had to do it at least 4 or 5 times a day. Very noisy during remodel beginning as early as 6:30am !!! Daily !!! Had to go to Manager's office and complain just to get them to remove the resort fees off the bill. Ask questions before you book here.

We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms, it was nice. Housekeeping didn’t top off soaps in shower, ran out of body wash the second day. They also didn’t leave us new wash cloths or hand towels. We stayed 3 nights. The daily $22 parking fee is outrageous. Parking in the back lot or garage is abundant. The first night the sports bar was open and we enjoyed the food. However, the other days we stayed the Sports Bar was open but the menu was from the very expensive steak house. We passed and ate off property. There are many restaurants a short walk off property. The casinos in South Lake Tahoe all allow smoking. The smoke odor is overwhelming. Skip the low minimum black jack tables at The Golden Nugget, the ones that require a $2 side bet that allows you to spin a digital wheel after getting blackjack. It greatly increases the house odds and drains your money fast. You are better off to save your money or play the higher minimum tables. One of my biggest complaints is you can’t get a cup of coffee, in the Golden Nugget, before 7am. As an early riser I look forward to my coffee first thing. Yes, there is crappy coffee in the room, with fake creamer, but it’s not the same. Across the street is The Lucky Beaver Restaurant. Don’t be fooled by its dive bar appearance. This iconic restaurant is open 24 hours and serve the best burgers around. They also serve breakfast and coffee all day. The breakfast is excellent!

We checked into the Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe on Monday, August 3, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM. Unfortunately, our arrival experience was extremely disappointing. The issue was not the wait time, as there was no line at check-in. The problem was the lack of professionalism and customer service we received from the front desk staff. When checking in, we noticed additional charges beyond the portion of the reservation we had already paid. We had no problem paying the balance—we simply wanted a clear explanation of what each charge represented. Unfortunately, the front desk agent was unable to explain the charges, which only created more confusion. We requested a copy of the paperwork, and she informed us that, due to casino policy, we would receive it at check-out. We completely understood and accepted that. At that point, after a long day of traveling, we simply wanted to understand the charges before heading to our room. Instead of offering an explanation, the employee responded with visible frustration, rolled her eyes several times, and displayed an attitude that made us feel unwelcome. To avoid escalating the situation or being disrespectful, we politely asked to speak with a manager. Sadly, the manager’s response was just as disappointing. She repeated that we would receive the receipt at check-out because it was casino policy, but she did not take the time to explain the charges, address our concerns, or acknowledge the unprofessional behavior we had experienced. She simply walked away while we were still trying to ask questions. A simple apology or even saying, “I understand your frustration,” would have made a significant difference. To make matters worse, we had reserved two rooms—one for two adults and another for two adults and two children. We had specifically requested rooms with two double beds, yet neither room met that request. What surprised us most was that our concern was never about the money. We were fully prepared to pay whatever balance was due. We simply expected transparency, clear communication, and respectful treatment. I rarely leave reviews, but I felt this experience deserved to be shared. I have worked in the hospitality and tourism industry in the United States for more than 20 years in an executive role, so I understand that policies exist and that mistakes can happen. However, professionalism, empathy, and effective communication should always be part of the guest experience. This was the first time that neither I nor my family had ever been treated this way at a hotel. I would also like to recognize the outstanding employees in every other department. Housekeeping, Security, the restaurants (including Saltgrass and Maestro’s), and the coffee shop staff were all exceptional. They were friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and truly demonstrated what hospitality is supposed to be. I sincerely hope management reviews the customer service standards at the front desk, because the quality of service we received there did not reflect the excellent work being done by the rest of the hotel’s team.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. When we checked in, not only did the room not have a single towel (not a hand towel, washcloth or bath towel), we found the condition of the room to be unsanitary. There was a half chewed pill and a used contact lens on the nightstand. We spoke to the front desk and they assured us that not only would they send someone to our room with towels to clean it and stock with towels. When we returned to the room 2 hours later, there were towels, but the waste on the end table was still there. We spoke to a different person at the front desk who said there was nothing they could do because there was no one in housekeeping on the premises. A security guard overheard our conversation and came to our room with a bottle of disinfectant and a rag for us to clean ourselves. This is completely unacceptable.
