This review is for Russell Herbert at GOLFTEC. Great experience. Long story short, I started the year right around a 14+ handicap, decided midseason that I needed to make a change ASAP, and I am currently down to a 7.2. For some context, I played very infrequently last year and finished around a 9 handicap, and at the start of this year I decided to start playing more, but it was a complete disaster another case of golf amnesia! Even at around a 9, I still did not feel like I had my game together. My lower scores were more about holding things together toward the end of a round rather than really attacking the course and feeling like I had the potential to consistently go low. I have been an on-and-off golfer for a long time. I played H.S. Varsity golf, although I wasn't particularly good at that point, and eventually got my handicap to just below a 2 around 2005. Even then, I always felt I had more potential and never really reached it. A lot of different tribulations over the years kept me from working on my game consistently. I started playing again around 2019, and from then through roughly 2025, the lowest I was able to get was just under a 9. I knew I needed two things if I wanted to get low again and ultimately work toward scratch: more time to work on my game and the right coach to help me get there. At this point, I am able to play at least once a week, sometimes more, and can usually get out to practice at least once a week as well. Around May 15th, I decided it was time to get to GOLFTEC. I booked an early 7 a.m. Sunday appointment and was lucky enough to stumble onto Russell Herbert. Initially, I went in planning to purchase only a five-lesson package. After the evaluation, though, I was confident in Russell's approach. He had already helped clean up a few things that had been plaguing my swing, so I decided to go with the 10-lesson package instead. Looking back, if you are someone trying to make a major change in your game, I would personally recommend at least 10 lessons, and then decide from that point. This is definitely a Mr. Miyagi-type approach. It requires some range time between sessions to really implement the changes. One of the hardest things in golf is expecting some magical fix to happen immediately. My advice would be to trust the process. At times, progress can feel slow, and it takes repetition for the changes to become natural, but that is part of improving. One thing I especially appreciated is that Russell did not try to completely rebuild my swing. There are still aspects of it that I personally want to improve, but I think it is a major positive that he worked with what I already had rather than trying to change everything. Russell's knowledge of the game is extremely deep, and he has an impressive ability to pinpoint whatever problem you may be having and quickly find a solution that makes sense for your swing. I hear from a lot of golfing friends that their coaches tried to overhaul too much of their setup or swing, and they either did not enjoy the process or were unsuccessful with it. I am sure all of the coaches at GOLFTEC Woodbridge are phenomenal as well, but this review is specifically about my experience with Russell, and he has been phenomenal. I also did outdoor lessons with him at Concordia Golf Club in Monroe, which provided some great additional insight and helped translate the work we were doing indoors onto the course. To put the improvement into perspective, because of the hard cap on my handicap this year from being around a 9 last year, my index did not fully reflect just how poorly I was playing at one point. Without that cap, I was probably playing closer to a 16–17 handicap. To go from that level of golf all the way down to a 7.2, which is the lowest I have been since somewhere around 2008, has been a huge improvement. There is still plenty of work to do, and I am looking forward to seeing how much lower we can get the handicap. Thank you, Russell!

Can't express the gratitude I have for Russel Hurbert at Woodbridge GOLFTEC. He has greatly improved my game. I was worried about picking apart my grip/stance/swing...etc. But Russel just made little adjustments and not only explained in detail what needed to be fixed but was very visual as well and I think that helped me process what i needed to be fixed in my game. I literally hit the ball cleaner and straighter. In the few meetings I've had with him about 6/7, I've taken off 5 or more strokes from my game with more coming. Once i perfect these little adjustments. So just wanted to say thanks, Russel !! ......Joe M

Whenever someone talks to me about improving their game, the only words out of my mouth are “go to Golftec.” They’ll say, “what about new clubs or new grips?” or whatever. No. Go to Golftec. That’s it. Lessons are by far the best investment you can make in your game. And lessons at Golftec really pay off. In two years, I went from a 16 index to a career low of 2. I put in a lot of work for sure but Golftec was the foundation. I started in California and then moved back to NY and found Brian Gussis at Woodbridge. Dude is good. Sees things other coaches don’t. Communicates in a relatable and kind way. There’s a reason he was named Golftec’s coach of the year. He gets it. I only work with him and somehow the entire staff knows my name. Golftec Woodbridge. Do it. Definitely worth the investment.
