  Purchased a backpack, hiking shoes, trekking poles, socks and a headlamp. Quality of merchandise is great. But the pushy salespeople are excruciating. I don’t even think they make commission. Why are they so determined to pressure me into paying 30 dollars to sign up for a bs rewards program with practically no rewards??? I just can’t understand how anyone would care to sign up. The rebate after the year is silly unless you spend a ton of money it’s genuinely not worth it. I was looking forward to coming back to REI in the future, but after that experience I won’t be returning unless ordering something online. What sucks the most is the associates were helpful. When the cashier immediately drops her mood and has an attitude after realizing I’m not signing up for the membership is ludicrous.

  Purchased a couple of inner tubes for a bike tire a week or so prior and one had a twist I had not seen before in it. Went in to double check if that was normal or if I should get a different one. Man working the bike counter was remarkably rude about it. He made it seem like I was idiotic for even asking about it. Turns out having a twist in the tire is fine, but according to this guy I should have already known that. I don’t believe I have ever been treated that poorly in my life by a store employee, my gf and I were taken aback. I have been coming to this rei for almost all of my life and everyone working there has always been very kind and happy to answer any questions we have. As someone that is trying to get more into biking it was very discouraging to see that the only place I know of to learn about bikes is not somewhere that is willing to answer questions kindly. My gf was with me as well and I am even more sad for her because now she does not feel like she has a place she can learn about outdoor equipment from a person instead of online. It is a real shame that I can no longer recommend the rei in Hingham to anyone that is looking for a helpful staff.

  Good experience checking out the hiking backpacks, good selection and well-stocked. Had the pleasure of meeting Dave who helped me decide which pack fit my needs, and was very knowledgeable

  This is a very, very good store with exceptional customer service. We stopped by simply to look at rock climbing shoes and were fortunate to receive help from Matt, who was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. His expertise and willingness to answer our questions made the experience both enjoyable and informative. Not only did we find the perfect climbing shoes, but we also purchased a new backpack and decided to become REI members. What started as a quick visit turned into an outstanding shopping experience. I would like to thank Matt and everyone else on the staff we interacted with for their EXCEPTIONAL service. It's rare to encounter such a knowledgeable and customer-focused team. We will definitely be back! Thank you again!
