- AHAri HerzogAug 1, 20261.0I wanted to buy a $30 item. The register clerk tried to sell me a $30 membership. She said she would give me a $30 gift card for the membership, and I can use it for my item. I explained I rarely go to REI so didn't want the membership. We went back and forth. Finally she let me buy the item. Managers: Listen to customers. If we don't want a membership, drop the hard sale.
