Customer service for the most part at the REI on M street in Washington DC has been acceptable up until my previous interaction with two individuals in the bike department seound Octberts 1st. Not only did they make me wait for an extended time while helping me, they also suggested that I buy a part from Trade Inn which has a history of extended delays when ordering from them. I did not know this was the case until I purchased a front rack based on rei's rech's recommendation. The tech said that it was cheaper than the one they could get but did not explain that the price would be equivalent after shipping from an european warehouse and very long shipping delays typical when ordering from Trade INN. My order was supposed to arrive on October 12 but I still have not recieved the bike rack with no update for new shipping date provided. My expereince at most Rei's has been exceptional but I cannot say the same for the rei bike department M northeast washington dc. This is not the first time that I recived poor service from them.

This was the least welcoming REI staff I have encountered. Depending on skin color, customers receive different greetings. I stood beside another shopper while a staff member offered assistance to them, yet I was ignored.

Denver was able to fix my bike on the spot! By comparison, another bike shop I saw earlier took a day after drop off to assess, and would have required another week to order and receive the brake pad.

Biggest REI I have been in. Always fun to sift through camp gear. Was looking for travel pants; fussy to have zippered pockets exactly where I like them. Found a variety and scored one. Felt like REI can add to choice of tops. Overall great store. Staff were great!

Update: Maile and Tim made things right. ***** Horrendous customer service. While I was next in line, an employee who was helping another guest asked another employee if he would help me. He said he couldn't because he was "literally leaving in 30 seconds". All i needed to do was check my bike in to the repair shop, and I had already been waiting for almost half an hour. If it wasn't for Emmoni, this place would have gotten 1 star.
