It took me 2.5 hours to get to this beautiful and challenging muni track last 06/20/2026, one of only two designed by Pete Dye in CT with the other being the TPC River Highlands. This track lived up to its billing as the #2 ranked course in CT (2025) so I'm happy to report that every mile from my 131 mile trip was was worth it. As a walker, the course was not too challenging despite the elevation changes but the the raised curbs on more than a few holes was a bit of a nuisance. There were a few moderate gaps between holes that needed traversing for a walker but it didn't require more than a 5 minute walk. As a walker, I noticed that there were no water stations available but there was a mobile cart lady driving around so be prepared to bring your own supply. With regards to the course conditions, fairways were acceptable but given that it was a muni course, the conditions were passable but wasn't enough to find any fairway as being in a better condition to be considered lush. The greens were passable with not too many pitch marks and the traps were well-maintained. Nevertheless, the greens ran true with the speed being a little bit on the fast side. Despite playing with my "F game" that day from the green tees to shoot another mediocre round of 92, I was still a bit happy after notching a well deserved Birdie from 9.5 feet on the 17th after flushing my tee shot from a gripped-down 7 Wood from 181 yards that flew straight towards the pin that ended up pin high and left of the hole. I still had to repair a couple of pitch marks on my line but my putt was a bit firm as I aimed right edge of the hole. Fortunately, my putt was center cut as my ball went in for a well deserved Birdie. I was also proud of myself to have hit a couple of great drives that reached over 290 yards albeit being wind-assisted (30 mph gusts). However, the tee boxes were beat-up on more than a few holes but at least all were maintained to be flat. As a Pete Dye course, I thoroughly enjoyed his modern design with the tilting fairways as the most enjoyable. There were also more than a few holes with generous fairways but also more than a few challenging holes (#14 included) with narrow ones bordered by insane aggressive sloping hills usually on the left side. I didn't use the driving range but it was a significant walk away from the clubhouse. There were no shower facilities on site so that was a minus for out-of-towners like myself. Overall, I'd give this course an 8 out of 10, only because it's a Pete Dye course but if it wasn't, I'd only give it a 6 out of 10. In terms of value, $65 is worth every penny and is a steal compared to $225 to play the exclusive and private TPC River Highlands if you're able to get in or $170 at Pound Ridge in NY. The team managing the course including the guy from the pro shop and the starter were friendly. In fact, I'd like to give a shout out to the Pro shop guy as I got an unexpected freebie from him. He was kind enough to give me a free ball marker after I purchased their excellent $6.00 yardage book. It is also worth mentioning that out of all the 3 Pete Dye courses I've played including Bulle Rock and Pound Ridge, this course is probably the most benign as it lacked the signature moguls that usually dot his courses.

course was in good shape but multiple carts kept breaking down and the person in pro shop(younger blonde man) was extremely rude about it, blamed it on me and insisted i never called for a replacement cart when i did twice. He then raised his voice and told me to switch the carts out (didnt know i had to do it myself). Then after i did that another groups cart broke down and had to get switched out, but it was probably his fault as well, i have never been spoken to that way after paying $120 to play a course.
