I brought my boyfriend here who is new to the outdoors lifestyle and was prepared to buy EVERYTHING. Until their "guest relations" people followed and watched us like they were expecting us to steal the entire store. I ignored this mistreatment until I was asked by one associate for the fourth time "you're still here?" In the most condescending tone I could ever imagine. I had already made a small purchase at that point, I was simply helping my friend pick and chose...well...everything one would need to go camping. At the very least ill be canceling my membership, and a majority of my family is following suit after hearing how we were treated by these condescending, judgemental, homophobic employees. We are thoroughly disgusted to have been treated this way by a company like this.

I said I was not interested three times before the guy started to be argumentative with me. Almost as if he was insulted I said I didn’t want to join. If this is how REI trains people to be. They should reconsider their staff training programs. I understand not taking no for an answer. And I understand employees probably get some benefit from signing people up. But giving people attitude because they have said no three times. That’s crazy. I work high sales retail. Never would I allow an employee to speak to people in a heightened upset voice arguing about the deals they are getting on gear. I will never shop at REI ever again. I will never recommend anyone to go there either. I had not a single person check on me while I was there for almost an hour. Until right before I left. And all they wanted to do. Was sell me a membership.
