Plato's Closet buys and sells gently used clothing, shoes, sneakers, accessories and athletic wear for teens and young adults in West Seneca. Sell styles you no longer wear for cash on the spot, or shop thrifted, secondhand, and resale fashion, including trendy, brand-name styles for less. With 500+ independently owned and operated locations across the U.S. and Canada, fresh inventory arriving daily, Plato's Closet makes thrifting easy, affordable, and more sustainable.
My experience at Plato’s Closet felt extremely age-biased. A young woman in front of me, who looked to be around 20 years old, brought in two boxes of clothing and her items were accepted for review without any issue.
I am in my 50s, and when I came in with two bags of clothing, I immediately felt discouraged from even leaving my items. Before really going through what I had, I was told it could be an “overnight haul,” which came across to me as an attempt to discourage me from going through the selling process at all.
That difference in treatment was hard to ignore. It gave me the impression that if you are older than their target age group, your clothing may be judged before it is even properly reviewed.
I also question a process where very young employees appear to decide what has resale value largely based on what they personally would wear. A resale store should be evaluating clothing based on condition, brand, demand, quality, and what a broad range of customers may want — not simply the personal style of someone under 20.
The entire experience left me feeling that older customers are not treated equally in the selling process. Plato’s Closet should seriously review how sellers are treated across different age groups and make sure everyone receives the same fair evaluation.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend selling your clothes here, especially if you are an older customer.

I had a terrible experience this one girl there tonight, Layla. She was so bad to me when I was there. I walked in and asked where the shorts were because I was shopping for my niece and she constantly gave me attitude and kept rolling her eyes at me. She would turn to other co workers to talk about customers and when cashing me out I asked about the google review thingy and she ignored me and I was supposed to get 20% off my purchase and she didn’t put it on there. I would say from good experiences she isn’t a person to keep. My buys are always good but that experience with the Layla girl made me double think on what people they hire and keep around.
