nandemonai case

I was subjected to hostile treatment in this store. I escalated the situation internally, but have decided to write about it here as well, since incidents like this should be written about transparently.
I came into the store in the evening, and was shopping for a blazer. I browsed for a bit, put the blazer on a rack, and took a faux-pearl headband in my hand. A black middle-aged woman who appeared to work there looked in my direction and said "Put that back." I was confused and asked "Excuse me?" She repeated her previous words in a nasty tone of voice. I got upset and told her that her manner was unacceptable, asking who her manager was. She said that she was the manager, and that she would kick me out of the store. I told her that I would report her, and walked out.
I called customer service and did indeed spend a long time reporting it. The incident had been recorded on video. This worker's behavior was hostile from the outset, and I had never spoken to her before, or even seen her prior to this. It was doubly shocking for how baffling it was.
Ultimately, this matter was apparently dealt with "internally." J Crew gave me a gift card and general apologies, but to my knowledge, this woman is still working there as of this date (more than a year has passed from the incident). They also told me that the woman who behaved in this horrible manner had apparently "mistaken" me for another individual. I find this very hard to believe.
I am a petite WOC who appears to be young. None of these factors should count, though sadly they do affect reception. The broader issue is that no individual should be treated like that within a retail store.
I can't believe that I have to write this in 2026, but I really hope they understand how serious a violation this is, and how much it can undermine both customer experience and peace of mind. If they had any integrity, they would take strong disciplinary measures to ensure that this does not ever happen again.
I would give zero stars to this location if I could.
