this is literally new…how he’s gonna tell me the conditions was the reason he didn’t take em 😂😂😂 the other day i bring in 12 pairs of levi’s jeans men.. he only took 2 ! what is this 😂 waste of time
I’ve sold things there a few times over the last year, and like some people say- they definitely do not give the best prices. However, could I get more for my items if I took the time to list them on FB Marketplace, Mercari and Poshmark- absolutely! Do I want to be bothered doing all of that? Nope, no I don’t. You might have purchased that bag for $300 last season, used it and are over it, you can expect a thrift shop to pay you what you originally paid, that’s absurd; they have an overhead that they have to support, and I’m good with not having to do any of the work. Everyone there has always been super nice, I like that they tell you how much for each item they’re willing to pay, and I’ve definitely pulled items back. But you’re giving me $30 for a used designer bag that’s been sitting in my closet that I could sell myself for let’s say $60 but then I have to photograph it, list it and deal with people messaging about it and flaking? Yeah I’ll take the hit on the cost to not deal with that. I think they could go a smidge higher on what they offer, but I’ll be a repeat seller- I find them to be honest, I think they’re a great addition to the area and again, they do have to cover their overhead. Will I sell my Louis’, Prada or Valentino bags there, definitely not but they’re great to get rid of some MK, Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade etc.
Great finds. My daughter loves coming here

I wanted to leave an honest review because I’ve had mixed feelings about this location over time. There was an employee named Amber who used to work here that made racist comments and was rude to customers, which honestly made me hesitant about returning. However, I do appreciate that the situation was taken seriously and that she was ultimately fired because of her behavior. It made me feel better knowing accountability was taken seriously.
Since then, I’ve also noticed changes in management. While I’m happy with the outcome regarding that situation, I personally preferred the previous management style. The former manager seemed to have a stronger handle on the store overall and created a better atmosphere. With the newer management, I’ve sometimes gotten the impression that interactions with employees can come across as unfair or a bit cocky at times, which affects the environment of the store.
That being said, I’ve also learned more about how Plato’s Closet works as a business. A lot of people come in expecting to sell everything, but it’s important to remember that this is a resale store with limited inventory space, especially since it’s one of the only Plato’s Closet locations on Long Island. They can only take what fits their current inventory needs, trends, and season.
I also learned pretty quickly that when you sell clothes to any resale business, the payout is usually going to feel low compared to what you originally paid or what you think the item is worth. That’s simply how buy-and-resell businesses operate because they still need room to profit when they resell the items. If you want full value for your clothes, selling independently on apps like Depop, Poshmark, or Facebook Marketplace may be the better option — but that also usually takes more time, effort, and patience.
Overall, while I’ve had concerns in the past and still have some opinions about the current management approach, I can appreciate that improvements were made in certain areas, and I think it’s important for people to understand how the resale process works before going in.
