- ABA Little BirdyJul 12, 20263.0Pros: - the prices are good - the staff is nice - the gear is in good shape Cons: - the ORC is constantly understaffed. It doesn’t matter when you go — you’ll wait 30-60 minutes in line (even if you just need one item). I’ve tried right when they open, mid afternoon, later in the day…midweek and weekends — it doesn’t matter. They never have enough staff for the demand. I went yesterday (Saturday) afternoon to rent two life jackets. There was a line out the door. There was no one at the desk (he was out helping a customer). The phone was ringing consistently and there was no one to answer it. I chatted with the people around me in line, and they had all been waiting 30 minutes or more without the line moving. After ten minutes of waiting without seeing the desk guy at all, I left. I understand that the understaffing isn’t the staff’s fault — and it might not even be entirely management’s fault, since it’s probably hard to find outdoorsy people who want to spend their time helping people with rock climbing gear etc. instead of climbing the rocks themselves. However, when you have ONE staff to cover a busy weekend afternoon?? That’s criminal understaffing.
