I don't normally bother writing reviews, but I felt this one was deserved. When my daughter was looking for apartments, we toured a lot of places downtown before heading up to North Hills to check out the Eastern. The place honestly speaks for itself, but what really stood out was Derek in the leasing office.
As a dad, I ask a LOT of questions, and Derek knew the property inside and out. He never made us feel rushed and there was no sales pitch—just someone who genuinely seemed to enjoy helping people.
Apartment hunting is stressful, especially when it's your daughter’s first place on her own. By the end of the tour, she was excited to apply and move in. And, thanks to Derek, I felt comfortable knowing she was choosing a place with a great team behind it.

My experience with The Eastern started out great, but it quickly declined. In February 2025, the flooring in the den began coming up, and the situation worsened when a poorly designed sink overflowed, flooding the half bath and den. I wasn’t the only resident to have had this issue. Despite numerous emails and repeated promises from management, the floor was never repaired by the time I moved out in March 2026.
Parking is a major problem. The garage is shared with Advance Auto, and “resident spots” are only available from 7pm to 7am. If you leave during the day, finding parking when you return is difficult, which has led residents to rent additional spaces, making it even worse.
The apartment flooring is cheap and uneven—you can feel it shifting and popping as you walk. Common areas aren’t much better, with dried paint left on flooring near elevators that was never cleaned up.
The amenities don’t live up to what’s advertised. Events are minimal compared to nearby properties like Park Central. Concierge service sounds great, but in reality, emails go unanswered and communication is poor. I was only notified of a delivery once during my entire stay. Packages and even flowers were often left downstairs without notice, making the $50/month fee hard to justify.
Communication with the leasing office was consistently frustrating. Issues were acknowledged but rarely resolved. Move-out was especially difficult—incorrect charges took days to address, and responses were slow and inconsistent. At one point, the leasing individual I was dealing with (T) began replying only to my husband on emails I sent, removing my name from the emails, despite me being on the lease, and having previously dealt with me on any issues we had until this point, which felt unprofessional and petty.
Overall, the lack of follow-through, poor communication, and unresolved maintenance issues made this a very disappointing experience.
The Eastern does a great job looking like a luxury high-rise, but that's where the luxury experience ends.
The building has 33 stories of apartments and only about 160 resident parking spaces, with 40 of those reserved. Now management is taking away additional resident parking while continuing to accommodate Advance Auto employees, who are allowed to park in spaces intended for residents during the workweek.
For the amount residents pay to live here, it's unacceptable to come home and wonder if you'll even have a place to park. Management has made it clear that honoring commercial parking agreements is a higher priority than providing adequate parking for the people who actually live in the building.
The aesthetics may attract you, but don't let them fool you. If you value convenience or expect a true luxury living experience, I would not recommend moving to The Eastern.

We LOVE living at The Eastern! My husband and I moved to Raleigh about 8 months ago, and we feel so lucky to call The Eastern our new home. It feels like a community of friends here, and we have met so many wonderful people through various events. The people who work here are amazing, the property is impeccably maintained, and you can’t beat the location. We are right in the center of restaurants and shopping. It feels like there is always some event happening at midtown park right downstairs, and we love walking 2 minutes to the grocery store to pickup what we need to dinner that evening. I can easily jump on the highway to get to the office… or our favorite… ~10 min to Lenovo center for concerts and Hockey. I rarely write reviews… but we are so happy that we chose to live here. There are so many great things, but… the view speaks for itself!!
