Since moving here in March 2025, my girlfriend and I have noticed a pretty steady decline in both this complex and the surrounding area. I’m writing this review at 8:00 PM on a Monday night while trying to relax after work, and there has already been what sounded like street racing going on nearby from around 6:00–8:00 PM. On top of that, there’s currently a party at the pool with loud music and heavy bass shaking through the complex. Pool Area Based on what we’ve experienced the past few weekends, I expect most summer nights will probably be more of the same. There have been multiple nights where loud music and partying have gone on until 2:00 or 3:00 AM. While the pool may seem like a nice amenity when touring the property, it’s constantly being closed because of the mess left behind after these parties. Management recently introduced a wristband policy to limit pool access, but most of these issues happen after the office closes around 5:00–6:00 PM, so it really hasn’t made much of a difference. There are even signs up stating the pool is open from dusk til dawn, so this begs the question, why is this policy not being enforced? Apartment Space We honestly do like the apartment itself, but the walls and ceilings are incredibly thin. The resident above us has a dog that constantly barks and stomps around, especially when they seem to be away. It’s gotten to the point where the covers around our ceiling light fixtures have actually been knocked loose from the vibration and impact. There’s also a pretty consistent marijuana smell around parts of the complex despite this being advertised as a smoke-free community. Gym The gym itself is solid and gets the job done. My biggest issue was that the fob access system was down for over a month between December and January, which meant residents couldn’t use the gym outside leasing office hours during that time. Price For the amount we pay in rent, utilities, and other fees, especially with renewal rates increasing, the overall experience just doesn’t match the price anymore. The quality of life here has noticeably declined because of the ongoing noise and community issues mentioned above. I’d definitely recommend looking at other options before signing a lease here. Final Thoughts I don’t put all the blame on management. Maintenance has usually been quick to respond, and the office staff does put effort into community events. That said, there’s been a lot of staff turnover since we moved in during March 2025. Still, something needs to change regarding the noise and pool situation because the wristband system feels more like a temporary patch than a real solution. Increased security or more regular police presence around the area would probably help. What used to feel like a quiet, luxury-style apartment complex has unfortunately started heading in the wrong direction. If you’re a working professional with a normal work schedule and value peace and quiet, I honestly wouldn’t recommend Story University North right now.

Since living here, this is now our third management team, and I can honestly say the current staff has been the best group we’ve had so far. They appear to care and are trying to improve the community. Unfortunately, many of the ongoing issues seem to stem more from the resident culture that has developed over time than from the current office staff themselves. When this complex first opened, it felt like a promising luxury development with a great, discreet location and a peaceful atmosphere. The original management team appeared to be much more selective with applicants and focused on maintaining a professional and respectful living environment. However, after the second management transition, it seemed like standards changed drastically, and since then the community atmosphere has declined significantly. Theft and safety have become major concerns. The Luxer package room is constantly unorganized, and packages are frequently stolen with little accountability. Even after switching to direct door delivery, packages still disappear. Whether it is unauthorized guests or residents themselves, the issue has become excessive and frustrating. There are also ongoing issues with residents hosting large unauthorized gatherings at the pool late into the night with loud music, trash, and disruptive behavior. Rules are rarely enforced, and many tenants are inconsiderate of shared spaces. Amenities are often damaged, left dirty, or monopolized by groups who make the environment feel unwelcoming to other residents. The trash chute areas are frequently unsanitary, and overall cleanliness throughout the property has noticeably declined. There also appears to be a large number of residents and guests who do not respect the property or the people living around them. What is most disappointing is that this community had the potential to remain a mature, professional environment. Instead, it has become increasingly chaotic and uncomfortable for residents who value peace, cleanliness, and respect for shared living spaces. Once my lease is complete, I will be looking to move into a more mature community with residents who take pride in where they live and respect the environment around them.

We were initially told we would receive a gift card as a move-in incentive, but after waiting quite a while, we were instead given a Fitbit with no clear explanation that this was replacing the original offer. Eventually, management agreed to take $500 off our rent, which we appreciated, but the communication and follow-through could have been much better. It would have been more professional to follow up with what was promised rather than leaving us to figure it out and then go back on what was supposed to be given. While talking to other residents it’s clear their communication is inconsistent and the things they take serious vary from day to day. Our neighbors on our floor are generally great, but the residents below us have extremely loud music at all hours of the day, and this has been ongoing for months. It’s not just us—others can hear it as well—but the issue hasn’t been resolved. Safety has also become a concern. There have been recent car break-ins, and at night there are often loud cars (like Chargers and Challengers) racing through the parking lot. Additionally, shared spaces like the gym and pool have people who do not appear to live here. They prop doors open (since they do not have the key fob) overcrowd the area, and create an uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe environment. Overall, what once felt like a normal apartment complex despite being in charlotte has started to feel less secure and less well-managed.

This is a beautiful, brand-new apartment complex with nice floor plans, but unfortunately our experience has been very disappointing. Just a couple of weeks after moving in, our entire apartment flooded. Prior to this, we had already submitted maintenance requests because our toilet was continuously running, but nothing was done. The flooding could have been prevented if the issue had been addressed sooner. After maintenance and plumbing finally came out, they left multiple fans and humidifiers running in our unit constantly for over a week. This caused our electric bill to increase significantly. I contacted the property manager’s supervisor, who told me I would be reimbursed for the extra electricity since the flooding was not our fault. However, after that conversation, she completely stopped responding to me despite multiple attempts to follow up. There have also been several major building issues. One day the water was shut off to the entire building without any warning at around 10 a.m. and was not turned back on until almost 9 p.m. Additionally, the electricity went out one night, and it took two full days for the internet to be restored. Parking is another major issue. There is not enough parking for the number of apartments, and now residents are being told we cannot park on the street. This is extremely frustrating because there are simply too many apartments and not enough parking spaces. This should have been planned better during construction. Because this is a brand-new complex, it’s concerning that there are already so many issues. You can tell in small but important ways—especially with the plumbing—that the building process may have been rushed. I’ve also heard that multiple units have experienced flooding. Overall, while the complex looks nice and has great floor plans, the lack of communication, unresolved issues, repeated infrastructure problems, and insufficient parking have made living here extremely frustrating.

I had the most amazing experience working with Morgan! She was very responsive and kind and made sure that I had everything I needed to apply and get approved my townhome! I love the community and the amenities and I’m excited to begin living there!
