The location is convenient to walk to class, and the unit I'm in is fine (ish). That's about all the positive things I have to say about this apartment. Now, here's everything wrong with Rush:
1. The hallways are disgusting and smell absolutely rancid. There are various stains all over the carpet, and it looks like they haven't attempted to clean the place once. The elevators are also filthy, and don't get me started on the stairwells.
2. Parking is terrible. Not only is there a shortage of spots, which is strange considering they charge $30 per month for regular parking, but the towing company they use is terrible and predatory. My roommate was towed without notice, although she didn't violate any of the parking rules; We figured out she got towed because her car was straight up missing from the garage. We were then sent on a wild goose chase to get her car back, which ended up costing her about $250. I'm honestly convinced that the company has some sort of quota they have to meet because the situation made no sense.
3. In addition to parking being terrible, accessing the parking garage itself is a pain. The parking garage is located on one side of the building, so if you live on the opposite side, have fun walking a mile just to get to your car (and if you have groceries, good luck). The key fob to open the garage door also breaks, and even if you report it, they don't do much to fix it. There are maybe 10 visitor spots for the entire building, and you can't park in them for more than a few hours without getting towed, so there's practically no way to have a guest visit overnight.
4. Rush uses Valet trash, which has pick up hours starting at 4 pm, and you must have your bins back in your room by 9 am the following day. The only issue is, they're never consistent on when they'll actually show up (that is, if they show up at all); They could pick up your trash at 4:01, or they could pick it up at midnight, who knows. But god forbid you accidentally left your bins out 5 minutes after 9, you're getting fined. The irony is, residents get the same duplicate emails about valet trash every 2 days, outlining the hours that the trash service themselves don't follow.
5. Their communication regarding maintenance operations is terrible. Just this last fall, right before Thanksgiving break, they announced a surprise pest control operation where residents had to empty everything from their kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and leave their apartment whenever the people showed up. The only thing is, they never specified when exactly they would show up, and had conflicting messaging on how long we had to vacate the apartment.
6. Just the other day, there was a weird fire alarm glitch that resulted in the alarms for the entire building going off for hours on end. By the time they got it fixed, my ears were ringing, and their apology was giving a couple of people free sandwiches??
7. I have never attempted to use the gym or the pool because it seems like I'm getting an email every 2 seconds saying that it's closed for whatever reason, oh, but we're still being charged the same amenity fee.
8. The utility bills have randomly gotten really expensive, although my roommate and I haven't changed our usage. Our utility bills used to be between $20-$30 a month, and now they're consistently $40-$50. I've heard of other people having this same problem starting around the same time, so clearly this isn't an individual resident problem.
9. The mailroom rarely has supervision. Packages are consistently left unattended and vulnerable to being stolen.
10. The AI leasing agent is unhelpful and irritating; it's almost as if they're doing everything to avoid a human answering calls.
I'm paying about $1200 monthly for rent, by the way. I understand that college housing is never the best, but for the price they're charging, I would sure hope that it's better than the average college apartment. It's also laughable that the place is advertised as "luxury".
