Stay far, far away. I wish Google had a 0 star rating because 1 star is giving this place way too much credit. There are some very nice apartment complexes in Asheville, and trust me when I say its worth spending a couple or few hundred bucks more per month to get yourself a better place. I have lived in dozens of apartment complexes in my life, have lived and rented in places around the world. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly with such horrendous service, lack of follow up, poor communication, conflicts of words said, promises made not kept. I'll start by saying I typically am approved same day for residences I am leasing, sometimes a few days if there is a 3rd party background check or other things involved. It took weeks to get a simple yes or no from this complex because they couldn't figure out how to verify my income through business bank statements... something every other complex in Asheville does with ease by simply looking at your bank statements. This place had a multi day process, got me on a zoom meeting, had me contacting my bank, doing all kinds of things to get to a simple verification of my income. Total disorganization and insanity. Throughout the multi week screen process I was promised phone calls back that I never received, emails back I never received, and communications that I had to be the one to continually push and follow through on - there was no proactive effort on the part of management whatsoever. We finally get to move in day, take occupancy of the apartment, and it smelled horrific, like someone smoked there for years and had filthy pets. I asked the person at the front desk if they had an odor remediation process - she said yes, and someone would be out Monday. They never came. A service ticket/work order was never opened. Every single night for the first 2 weeks of living there, the neighbors sounded like they were murdering each other all night long, yelling and screaming, horrifying domestic abuse with a crying infant in the apartment with them. The walls in this complex are paper thin and it sounded like they were in the apartment, but were next door. The neighbors below have a band that plays, at least during the day, but have you ever had a full band playing in an apartment complex with paper thin walls? Sketchy people hang out in the parking lot making my daughter feel unsafe, trying to hit on her in disrespectful ways. After all of this in the first couple weeks, I then have the manager reach out and say, hey, seems like you are short $150 on the move-in costs, even though I extensively reviewed the move-in costs with the person that handed us the keys upon move in - I made sure there wouldn't be additional surprises and went line item by line item with her to ensure the full move-in costs were covered. And while the person handing us the keys on move-in day assured me everything was good, the manager had the gall to not follow up and ask how the move-in was or how the odor issue was that I raised on day 1, but to ask for another $150. I respectfully declined his request to give him another $150 and told him to take it out of the payroll of the person that assured me that all move-in costs were covered. What kind of scam is this place running? They will not disclose to you some of the riff raff running around this complex... they will not disclose to you the paper thin walls... or the domestic violence and abuse happening next door... or the full band that plays randomly below you... but they will chase you for money you didn't know you owed, because you don't. Stay away. Pay the extra money for a much better living experience, your safety, health, peace of mind and be good to yourself... do not move to Skyland Exchange.
