Where do I start? First meeting was amazing. She talks fast and talks a great game about what she can do for you to get your retainer. The other reviews said it best "tell the client what they want to hear." The minute money exchanges hands, that's it. You now have an attorney who you have to hunt down for phone calls. Someone who pushes court dates out as far as she can because she has too much going on and can't manage her case load. This effectively prolongs your case which effectively causes you to be charged more. Her communication is abysmal. You have to call repeatedly. REPEATEDLY. When you do finally get her on the phone there is one excuse after another. God forbid you need a copy of anything. There are post-it notes everywhere. If her desk is an indicator of how she runs her business and her life, she needs help. The briefs always have typos. These things don't inspire confidence.
It can take YEARS to complete your case and it's not because of the court system. It takes a lot longer than it needs to and this is because she is juggling too damn much. If you not careful and riding her constantly to the point of borderline obnoxious you won't hear from her for quite some time. One time it took so long for her to reach out I nearly forgot I had her on retainer. Listen, I know lawyers get a bad reputation for many reasons. Honestly, I have no doubt Kelley was a great attorney at some point in her life. She has the potential to still be great, but greed has compromised her work ethic and that's enough to make me look elsewhere the next time I'm looking for an attorney. You have to treat your clients like people who are in need of legal assistance, not like a check you can cash.

How much does an uncontested divorce cost?
At our law office, an uncontested divorce is defined as one where both parties agree to the divorce and have reached a mutual agreement on asset division, including property, finances, and retirement accounts, as well as child support, spousal support, and child custody. For such cases, we charge a flat fee retainer of $2,500, which covers two drafts of a settlement agreement. If an agreement isn't reached after the second draft, the case is no longer considered uncontested, and our billing switches to an hourly rate. Additional county filing fees apply and are paid directly to the county clerk's office. For more information on divorce proceedings or to engage a family attorney in Dutchess County, NY, please contact our office.
How long does this process take?
The duration of a legal case varies significantly based on individual circumstances and the assigned judge. It's challenging to provide an accurate timeline from start to finish. Our goal is to guide you through the legal process and provide information about the court system, including details about the specific court and judge handling your case. For experienced legal representation in Dutchess County, NY, please reach out to our office to discuss your case with a family attorney.
How do I file for a PINS petition?
A person in need of supervision (PINS) petition cannot be filed by a private attorney. This petition must be filed with the family court in the child's county of residence. Petition forms are available at the family court building or can be downloaded from www.nycourts.gov/forms. Once filed and docketed, a county attorney is assigned to prosecute the petition if the matter isn't handled through probation diversion.
