A full trial transcript was requested on an expedited basis and was prepared and delivered accordingly. After delivery, payment was disputed despite the transcript having been specifically requested beforehand, because he obtained it from the other parties. He then claimed, through a very lawyer-esque "trial prep" case explanation, that he never confirmed his order because after he asked me to send it asap, he asked for the price, which he believes means that he didn't confirm his order because after seeing the price he no longer responded or wanted it (since he had planned to get it through alternative sources). As a court reporter, a significant amount of time and labor goes into preparing trial transcripts accurately and under tight deadlines. Clear communication and good faith handling of transcript orders are extremely important in maintaining professional working relationships within the legal industry. I attempted multiple times to resolve the matter reasonably and professionally. I reduced the bill amount and responded to all of his arguments and excuses, trying to come to an agreement and to understand what his issue was. I even reached out to the partners of the firm to ask for help, and followed up a few times with no response. Unfortunately, the experience left me concerned about how transcript vendors and court reporting professionals are treated in billing disputes. I hope the matter can still be resolved appropriately.
