Shocking lack of basic knowledge for an “employment attorney”
I reached out to this firm about a serious federal employment discrimination case involving sex/sexual orientation. I had already submitted a detailed summary and obtained an EEOC Right to Sue letter.
The attorney dismissed it outright, saying Florida is at-will and I had no real recourse. When I mentioned this was a federal claim under Title [I said Title IX when I meant Title VII], he responded by asking me, “What’s Title IX?”
Let that sink in. An employment lawyer didn’t know — or couldn’t recognize — one of the most well-known federal civil rights laws. He made no attempt to correct me or discuss the actual Title VII claim. I hung up immediately.
If you need real help with discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or any federal employment issue, keep looking. This firm wasted my time when I was already stressed. Basic competence should not be too much to ask.
