Very frustrating experience from the beginning. I originally reserved a 10 x 5 unit and later tried to complete the booking and payment online. However, every time I tried, the website told me the unit was no longer available.
What made no sense was that I continued receiving repeated emails and phone calls from Extra Space Storage asking whether I still wanted the unit and encouraging me to complete my reservation. Because they kept contacting me, I assumed there was an issue with the online system and continued trying to book it myself.
I work during their business hours and wasn’t always able to stop what I was doing to answer calls and provide payment information over the phone. By the time I finished working, they were usually closed, which is exactly why I was trying to handle the reservation online.
Today they called me again at 4:40 and 4:41 p.m. I returned the call at 5:22 p.m., before their 6:00 p.m. closing time and less than an hour after they had just contacted me. Tomorrow was supposed to be my move-in day, so I was finally trying to get everything completed. Instead, I was told there were no more 10 x 5 units available.
When I explained that I had been trying to book online and that they had continued calling and emailing me about completing the reservation, I was met with a dismissive attitude rather than any acknowledgment of how confusing their communication had been. I wasn’t calling to argue—I was trying to understand why I kept being contacted about a unit their own system apparently wouldn’t allow me to book.
If the unit was no longer available, then stop repeatedly calling and emailing me telling me to complete the reservation. Don’t make a customer believe they can still book something and then give them an attitude when they finally call trying to resolve the problem.
The conflicting communication, nonfunctional online reservation process, and customer service made this an unnecessarily frustrating experience.
