I came to Arona on 05/12 to get a dining room table for my home. There was only one lady in the front and I should've known my experience would be poor when she seemed like she cared more for her personal phone call than to help guests in the show room. Resulting in an individual to leave deeming it wasn't worth her time. I should have followed her lead and done the same. She only pointed us to a computer to look at things online, which I could've stayed home and done myself. I finally picked the dining table I wanted. The price for it was good, the actual price of the table at Ashley's was $800 and it was going for $825. It took awhile for her to come back from her conversation that she had been on since looking for the table and the 30 minute wait after until we said something. We ignored all of these problems and proceeded to get it delivered to my home. That is where the issues really begin, the lack of communication that was given upon delivery was ridiculous. Arona kept blaming the delivery company and though that is true, that's the company you have chosen to do business with. I was supposed to recieve delivery on 5/14. They didn't let me know until almost to closing time that the table wasn't going to be delivered until Monday 5/18. Then Monday comes along and again, close to closing, come to find out the table was damaged. After a couple of discussions and speaking with the manager, they were kind enough to offer 100 dollars off. In which I appreciated. The manager said the table would be delivered on 5/20 and because of how the delivery has gone so far, I asked, "Are you sure?". She reassured me and said "yes, that she was in fact getting 2 tables." That kind of response made me feel comfortable to continue on. However, 5/20 comes along and they tell me that it isn't going to here until tomorrow. At this point the table was not worth the trouble and this was who, I would be doing business with. Customer service was there, only after the fact, there was a problem. It just seemed like I wouldn't get this table. Extremely dissatisfied and will not be doing business with them again. I will also let anyone know, who is seeking recommendations on where to get furniture, to really think twice if this place is worth it.

I am submitting a formal complaint regarding my recent experience with Arona Home Essentials, which I believe involved deceptive practices, mishandling of my application, and potentially discriminatory conduct. I completed an in-store application and was informed that I was approved. Based on that representation, I proceeded in good faith and made a payment as required. I provided all requested documentation and fully complied with every step of the process. However, when the scheduled delivery date arrived, no one showed up. I also did not receive any courtesy call, update, or communication explaining the delay or issue. This lack of professionalism and communication is unacceptable, especially after payment had already been collected. When I contacted the store, I spoke with the manager, Olivia, who then stated that my application was still “pending.” This directly contradicted what I had previously been told—that I was approved. After I followed up again seeking clarity, I was ultimately told that my application was being denied. When I asked for a clear explanation for the denial—particularly after I had already been told I was approved and had paid—she stated that she could not provide a reason. This situation raises serious concerns. Collecting payment after representing that an application has been approved, then later reversing that decision without explanation, may constitute deceptive trade practices under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA). Consumers are entitled to truthful, accurate information when making financial decisions, and businesses are prohibited from engaging in misleading or false representations. Additionally, denying an application after payment has been accepted, without providing a legitimate or documented reason, raises concerns under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), which requires that applicants be given a clear explanation for adverse decisions in credit-related transactions. Even in rent-to-own agreements, if approval decisions resemble credit determinations, these protections may apply. The inconsistent explanations, lack of transparency, and refusal to provide a reason for denial also create a perception of unfair or discriminatory treatment, which is deeply concerning and unacceptable in any consumer transaction. I will be reporting to the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Federal Trade Commission.
