I rented a storage unit at the Extra Space Storage on Cromwell Drive in Kyle, TX last year at $76 per month. The facility itself is excellent—it’s super clean, well-maintained, secure, and conveniently located. I’ve been happy with the actual storage experience and have no complaints about the condition or safety of the property.
However, after just 5 months, I received a letter raising my rate to $138 per month due to “inflation and rising costs.” When I checked online, the exact same size unit was still being advertised at the original $76 rate for new customers. I canceled my unit and re-signed up for the promotional rate on an identical unit just about 100 feet away. Now I have to go through the hassle of moving all my belongings that short distance just to keep the lower rate.
This “move-over” process feels like an unnecessary inconvenience for loyal customers. While I understand businesses adjust rates, the dramatic jump so quickly—combined with the same low rate still being offered to new renters—left a bad taste. It seems like existing customers are being penalized while new ones get the deal.
If you’re okay with potential rate increases after a short time (and possibly having to switch units), this is a solid, clean, and safe place to store your things. Just be aware of how quickly the price can change. I’ll continue renting here for now because of the quality of the facility, but I hope management considers more consistent pricing for long-term customers.
