I went in today to buy some Ethernet cable. They were out of a few sizes I actually wanted, so I started considering buying some tools and a 1,000-foot roll instead.
Apparently, I took a little too long deciding, because a security guard -dressed like he was preparing for a black ops mission - positioned himself in the aisle and watched me the entire time. As someone who works in security, I understand the importance of awareness, but the way it was handled felt more accusatory than professional.
It became frustrating enough that I decided not to make the larger purchase. I grabbed only a few feet of Cat6 cable and headed to checkout. Sure enough, he was there again, watching as if I was about to make off with a $20 spool of cable.
With a parking lot already monitored by multiple Flock cameras, you would think there would be a better balance between security and customer experience.
Ironically, the approach didn’t prevent theft, it discouraged a legitimate customer from making a larger purchase and potentially returning in the future. Good security is about observation, judgment, and knowing how your actions impact the people you’re supposed to serve.

Walked in wanting to purchase a washer and dryer. I knew what I wanted. I asked 4 times to be helped over 35 minutes and no one except a young man named John came up to me. He unfortunately did not know the answer to my questions so he told me to go to customer service for aid. I went there and Gracie was at the desk and I asked "Is this customer service section?" because the wall says "returns" i didnt want to waste her time. She rolled her eyes and said "no" I said "oh well I was told to come here.." then she said "well what do you need" i explained the wait time and how I came ready to buy and she had no answers for me regarding who was covering the appliance section. mind you, im being very neutral and matter of fact. im no karen. I requested she call a floor manager and she called one over named Tim. I was hoping to get some answers or clarity since hes a manager. I was wrong. Tim was so condescending and trying to agitate me with the way he was speaking to me. I opened the conversation with the fact ive been requesting to speak to someone in appliances and he did not acknowledge it and instead said "well what do you need" i told him I came to look at a washer and dryer and he asked for the name. I told him I don't know the name I only have the photo and the one I came to confirm was in store. he asked me how I dont know the name if I came to see it from online. an utterly moot comment from him that only served to try and upset me. I explained, well I know what it looks like and here is the photo I took. not once did he apologize for the wait time, nor did he offer to go look at them with me. he just typed it up on the computer. I asked him if id be getting the one on the floor if I ordered or a new one and he responded with "thats the display" I said "oh so then id get another one?" he said again "that's the display" again. im calm. I told him "look man pls address me as if I know nothing about your verbiage. I dont work here. " which i dont. some places sell you the item on the floor ! how am I supposed to know lowes policy with one time walking in. the entire conversation was tense and tim had a nasty mug on his face. (check back the footage if you dont believe me) his face wasnt like that when I saw him there earlier. he was annoyed that he had to do his job and boy am I easy to work with. Tim i hope you see this and I hope you have a better day than today because I didnt deserve your belittling tone. Im at home depot now and ill be buying the washer and dryer from them. 2k total. I just wanted to make a purchase man. Tim is not fit for his position. bad day or not, people like him lose business not make it. he could ge a great guy but is now reduced to this one interaction. promote john from the sales floor. he was sweet and was the only employee that kept coming back to check if someone had helped me yet.
