Yes, dental X-rays are safe for children. Our office uses digital X-ray technology, leaded aprons with thyroid collars, and adheres to the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). Children may require X-rays more frequently than adults due to their ongoing dental and jaw development.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Contact our office at (727) 345-3151. Dr. Prasatthong is available 24 hours a day for established patients. In a true medical emergency, please call 911. If a permanent tooth is knocked out, store it in milk or keep it moist in a damp napkin and contact us immediately, as reimplantation success decreases significantly after one hour. Baby teeth are not reimplanted to avoid damage to the developing permanent tooth underneath.

What happens at a new patient visit (age 3+)?

Please plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment to complete necessary paperwork. During the visit, your child will receive digital cavity-detecting X-rays, a growth and development X-ray, a professional cleaning, fluoride treatment, and oral hygiene instruction, followed by a comprehensive examination. You will receive copies of the X-rays, and Dr. Dan will personally meet with you to discuss all findings.

Our office features a two-story submarine themed "Levitt's Sea Odyssey," two separate play areas designed for younger and older children, arcade-style video games, and televisions positioned over each dental chair. Parents can relax in our spacious waiting area, which includes a large-screen television, coffee bar, and a semi-private quiet space.

Do you take insurance? How do payments work?

Payment is required at the time services are rendered. As a courtesy, we will file your primary insurance when accurate information is provided before your appointment. Estimated costs not covered by insurance are due at each visit. We do not file secondary insurance claims, and all cost estimates provided at appointments are approximate. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, HSA/Flex cards, and CareCredit.

How often should my child visit the dentist?

We recommend dental checkups and cleanings every six months. Depending on your child's individual risk factors for tooth decay, more frequent visits may be necessary.

Baby teeth serve essential functions, including helping children chew food, speak clearly, and smile with confidence. They also maintain proper spacing to guide permanent teeth into correct position. Tooth decay in baby teeth can result in pain, infection, and complications with the permanent teeth developing below them.

We use composite, or tooth-colored, fillings. Composite material offers a natural appearance and is suitable for use on both front and back teeth.

What is the Solea Laser?

Our practice is the only pediatric dental office in Pinellas County to offer the Solea CO2 dental laser. This technology enables us to perform many procedures, including cavity removal and minor surgical treatments, typically without the need for numbing agents, with no vibration, and without injections. The Solea Laser is effective on both hard and soft tissue.
