About

RestaurantFine Dining Restaurant
Built inside a 1929 mansion that presumably once was financed by Al Capone, the restaurant serves a menu of traditional gourmet dishes including Brie en Croute, Blackened Salmon Oscar and Black Thai Duck. The mansion that houses the restaurant was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and still features the original escape hatches and underground tunnels that were used by Capone to transfer liquor during the Prohibition Era. In 2001, High Point received the "Best Gourmet Meal in Tennessee" award from "Tennessee" magazine.

Since we moved here recently, we’ve been on the hunt for some really good restaurants. I’ll be honest—we haven’t had much luck finding what I would consider true fine dining. We were told to try Filo’s in Winchester, but unfortunately, that experience was less than mediocre for us. I didn’t particularly enjoy any of the entrées we ordered, and I definitely wouldn’t have considered it fine dining. Then someone told us, “You have to try High Point.” I’m glad we listened! The Pros: First, I really loved the atmosphere. It has that beautiful, cozy feeling of an older home, and I personally love that kind of setting. It feels intimate and comfortable without being overly formal. The ambiance was definitely one of my favorite things about the restaurant. And the food? Overall, I really enjoyed it. You can tell there is a good cook in that kitchen! The coconut shrimp had great flavor, although the coconut crust was just slightly overcooked—maybe a minute or two too long—so it was a little burnt in spots. The Oysters Rockefeller were absolutely delicious and probably one of my favorite dishes of the night. The salads were also very good. For my entrée, I ordered the lobster and steak. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the lobster had great flavor, although it was a little heavier on the salt than I personally prefer. Overall, though, I enjoyed the meal very much. Of course, everyone’s palate is different, and my family and I tend to be pretty particular about food, so that’s something to keep in mind. And I have to mention the drinks because this was both a pro and, in a funny way, part of my critique. 😂 We’ve been to quite a few fine-dining restaurants where watching the bartender prepare the drinks is almost part of the experience. Here, our waitress was the one making them, and I have to admit—I was a little skeptical watching her do it! 😂 But surprisingly, the drinks were actually really good. The One Con: If High Point is positioning itself as a fine-dining experience, I think the service could be elevated to match the food. Having been to quite a bit of fine dining, I’ve come to expect a certain level of attention to detail from the waitstaff. Things like clearing and resetting the table between courses, removing crumbs or leftover items, keeping the table polished throughout the meal, and generally having that extra level of attentiveness that makes you feel truly taken care of. The service wasn’t bad at all, but I felt like it was missing some of those finer details that separate a very good restaurant from a true fine-dining experience. With the quality of the food and the beautiful atmosphere, I think bringing that same level of attention to the service would really elevate the overall experience and help position High Point for an even higher-end clientele. That said, this is absolutely not a bad review. It’s actually the opposite. We really enjoyed our dinner, and the food was good enough that we will definitely be back. For us, High Point is a great little find—and I’m happy we finally found somewhere around here that we genuinely enjoyed. ❤️

I mean, WOW. What a gem sitting right there on top of Monteagle. Just a remarkable experience. Exceptional food and service. The building the surrounding gardens are absolutely lovely. This was one of the best dinning experiences my wife and I have ever enjoyed. Shoutout to to Katie who served us and the whole team at High Point.

Great place. Very charming with each room I the house converted to dining rooms, it keeps everything nice and small and the atmosphere very nice. The food was delicious, we had the burrata with watermelon and tomatoes, it was a great choice. The lobster bisque was wonderful, not to thick or rich. The steak was cooked perfectly and the Brussel sprouts were cooked and seasoned to perfection. We'll be back!
