Since 1950, Whataburger has proudly served a bigger, better burger. It all started when a young entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn't help but exclaim, “What a burger!” He named his humble burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, “Whataburger.” Over six decades later, we're still family owned and operated. Each and every Whataburger® is still made to order. We still use 100% pure beef and serve it on a big, toasted five-inch bun. And now, as we proudly serve burgers, chicken, salads and breakfast at more than 800 Whataburger locations across the country, that first burger stand is still close to our hearts.

It took 21 minutes for our food to come out and when we got it, it was room temp. Nothing was hot. Amber at the front was handling everything and was completely overwhelmed but she was handling it as best as she could. Whataburger is a go to place for us but won’t be for long unless things change. I’ll change my rating if this new place improves. It’s the worst experience we’ve had at a Whataburger and we’ve gone to one everywhere we would find one. Do better Columbia location.

Sat in the drive thru line for 10 minutes by the speaker, nobody acknowledged me, didn’t take my order. There were 5 cars ahead of me in line and an attendant walking people’s cars so I thought he’d take my order the line moved up. After 20 minutes go by, he said he couldn’t take my order and someone should’ve taken my order at the speaker but he said she wasn’t good at her job. 30 minutes in line for nothing. Now I’m at zaxby’s

We ordered online to pickup curbside. We checked in and waited 15 minutes. I went inside because the car that was parked beside us was empty and the lady came out with their food. The drive thru was moving well and not overly busy. When I went inside I was greeted with a look no words. I told them I ordered online and had checked in. One of the employees asked the procedure to the person with no words. She then spoke and said we are supposed to carry the order to them. My order had been sitting there. I told her two times that another person was out at curbside waiting and she never moved to look for another order. I did let the person know they would have to go in. She had to get her baby out to go in. The is horrible service and poor management. Our food was cold. There was one family inside.

A total disappointment!!! My hamburger was just OK. On the plus side, the tomato and lettuce were fresh and tasty. The meat was bland tasting, I ordered my hamburger on Texas toast, was burned on one side. My fries were the best part of the meal, hot and crisp, but not great tasting. A vanilla milkshake was not smooth and creamy, it was full of ice crystals. I have a gift card with a remaining balance, I will come back and use it, but will not return and spend another cent. Oh, I was in the dining at 11:00AM, plenty of tables available, some had not been cleaned. The men's restroom was out of towels.

Today I visited Whataburger in Columbia for the second time. This time, I decided to try something different instead of ordering a regular burger, so I went with the Patty Melt. My advice? Just order the burger. The Patty Melt comes with two beef patties, but unfortunately, they seemed overcooked, dry, and tough. In my opinion, the patties are a little too thick and might be better if they were made thinner. The sandwich just didn't work for me. It wasn't horrible, but it definitely didn't fit my taste buds. The meat was dry, and I found it difficult to enjoy. Now, I do want to give credit where credit is due. The customer service was A++ and everyone was very friendly. The wait time was still a little longer than I prefer, but I understand they're new to Columbia and are still working through the growing pains that come with opening a new location. At this point in life, I don't like wasting money, and unfortunately, I feel like the Patty Melt was money wasted for me. I took a couple of bites hoping it would grow on me, but it just wasn't something I enjoyed. In the end, I decided to throw the rest away, which is something I rarely do. That's never a good feeling when you've paid for a meal, but sometimes a food item just doesn't match your personal taste. Others may love it, but it simply wasn't for me. Next time, I'll stick with a regular burger. Rating: Customer Service: 10/10 Patty Melt: 3/10 Would I Order It Again? No My grandson and I visited Whataburger in Columbia, Tennessee on Saturday, May 23, 2026. We waited in line about 30 minutes, but that was understandable because the restaurant is brand new and everybody wants to try it. I had Whataburger once before in Alabama and it was absolutely delicious, so I was excited to finally get one in my hometown of Columbia. This visit didn’t quite give me the same experience I had in Alabama, but honestly I think it was because they were extremely busy. Sometimes when restaurants get overwhelmed, the pressure of trying to keep up can affect how the food is prepared and the overall experience. I still understand they’re new and trying to adjust to the crowd, so hopefully once things calm down and everyone settles into a routine, the food and service will improve because I know the potential is there.
