While visiting, we were so lucky to stumble upon Southern Steer Butcher! The entire team was incredibly kind and helpful, giving us a true small-town experience in the best possible way. The tri-tip was great, we loved it so much that we went back for ribeye and jerky. This place is absolutely worth a visit.

Such a fantastic spot that I am glad Chattanooga has! Kevin is the best, he gave such great recommendations and is so passionate about this place. I had a few delicious samples and left with some seasoning blends and pork chops that made for an amazing dinner. Will be returning to try out more items and taking advantage of the awesome deals with the rewards program! You HAVE to check this place out, you won’t be disappointed

We stopped into Southern Steer Butcher Shop in Northshore this weekend, and what a great experience! The entire team was incredibly welcoming, and the shop itself was clean, inviting, and beautifully designed.
Since it was their grand opening, they had samples of some of their popular meats and sides, and everything was SO delicious! My husband and I ended up leaving with bulgogi, ribeye, and smashed potatoes (OMG, quite possibly the best potatoes ever!). We made an amazing Asian-inspired dinner with the bulgogi last night, and it did not disappoint!
Such a great addition to Northshore! Highly recommend checking out Southern Steer. We'll definitely be back! 🥩

I had the pleasure of attending their soft opening and was so impressed! We sampled the Argentine steak tips, the Wagyu sirloin and the smashed potatoes and everything was delicious. The steak tips were such a hit we bought some to take home , along with some honey roasted carrots
The shop itself is beautiful, the selection is wonderful and the staff was so knowledgeable and welcoming.
You can tell a great deal of thought and care has gone into the food and the overall experience.
Such a great addition to the area. I’m looking forward to going back soon!

Southern Steer just opened in Chattanooga and I am so excited to have a butcher shop just 1.5 mile from my house. #gamechanger.
They had the grill going and were sampling and so got the opportunity to try several things.
The Argentine marinated beef was ridiculously good. It’s already marinated and ready for the grill, so there’s really not much you can do to screw it up. Which means you can serve a pretty impressive steak with very little effort.
I had no idea what Picanha was, but apparently I’ve been missing out. It’s a prized cut from the top of the sirloin with a fat cap to flavor it, and with their black garlic salt on it, it gets this incredible crust. SO good.
The Chicken Crack brat, bulgogi marinated chicken and Wagyu hot dog were all so good too. I also loved that they had homemade sides….smashed potatoes, rosemary buttered carrots, Brussels sprouts, mac and cheese… many more… all ready to just pop in the oven.
But the ribeye with that black garlic salt crust… that’s where it’s at for me. Add a bold glass of red wine and I’m happy. I will be getting the filet with their Gorgonzola butter to top it very very soon.
They also have tomahawks, all kinds of brat flavors, burgers, pork belly, bacon and even the same jerky they sell at Buc-ee’s. There is so much to try. 😱
And they didn’t forget the pups! Lots of treats, bones and even teeth-cleaning chews. My lab is going to be just as happy about this place as I am.
Such a great addition to Chattanooga and the North Shore, and they’re just getting started. There’s a lot more coming, including cuts from their dry ager. The owner actually went to Italy to purchase it and train with the people who make it, so I’m particularly excited to see what comes out of that!
Make sure you meet Kevin, the owner, who knows his stuff. They say every good cook and chef knows their local butcher. There’s an insider advantage to having someone you trust who can point you toward the right cut for whatever you’re making, cut it exactly the way you want and share a few tricks for cooking it. I have to say, I’m pretty darn happy to have a great neighborhood butcher. Just one more thing that makes living in Chattanooga even better.
