I just found out that they had a horrible health department inspection. We ate there last week. We found the Pizza way too salty and in general the food is just not great. Their answer to poor taste seems to be just add more cream, lot's of cheese and salt and it will be tasty. However the items on the health inspection included raw food sitting above ready to eat food in the cooler. An employee kept his personal drink in the ice machine and food was not labeled with expiration dates and food was kept beyond expiration dates. Those items are basic restaurant knowledge and are unforgivable and they could give people food poisoning.

This comes form a long time customer, decades-long customer. This review is as honest as I can make it. No sugar coating, but also no vengeance or ill-will. I will start with the good: The new location is amazing. Roomy, clean, and sets a unique Italian mood that is different from most "dark and moody" Italian restaurants. The employees are 100% AMAZING, every time. Kind, professional, prompt, and still have the charm I expect from good folks in East Ridge (Where I grew up). You feel like you're home. Gyro meat is delicious and amble. The best dish (To me) is the Greek salad with Salmon added. The salmon portion is HUGE and very flavorful. Shrimp is also a wonderful dish here, very big shrimp and great flavor. Now the negative, which sadly has kind of set the standard for me.: Lasagna. Lasagna, in my opinion, should be the flagship dish of any Italian restaurant. It should be the one dish any Italian restaurant can master and make make it their own signature for how the rest of the food on the menu should be. If you can't master lasagna, you need to remove it from the menu and be something other than an "Italian restaurant. My daughter is a picky eater, but even at the most basic Italian restaurant, she can get the lasagna and be happy. She was picking at hers during our last meal there. I asked how it was, she said "okay". I took a bite. ... I had to SEARCH for flavor. It tasted familiar but I couldn't place it. Something form my childhood. Was it "BAD" no, but it was just .... boring. I let my brother (Her uncle) take a bite. His first words were "Chef Boyardee." YES! That's the flavor I was tasting! It tasted no better (And possibly less flavorful) than the canned ravioli we all had as a kid. If the owner or manager is reading this, I BEG you to order lasagna from both Provinos and Giardino. Study them, taste them, reverse-engineer them. It is crystal clear than someone at portofino's change the lasagna to have cheaper ingredients, and to be prepared quickly. They thought customers wouldn't notice, but we do. I want to love this place. It is a staple of my hometown. Finally to a lesser degree, the bread. Are they delicious, YES! Do they have a billion times more glutten than normal bread? Yes. I have zero allergy to glutten, I am just a little sensitive to it. I can eat bread in moderation and be fine, but one of these breadsticks gives me "manageable intestinal issues" for a full day. And this isnt from one experience, I experience each time (Thinking, maybe it was from something else I ate that day). The pizzas have the most delicious toppings and visually are a work of art... but they use the same bread as the breadsticks they bring to the table, making me promise myself that I will never have another slice of Portofino's pizza ever again if I plan on being around people 24 hours after the meal.

I love the live music there on Saturday evenings. The band and the singer are making great music, with a wide repertoire of jazz, blues, country. We tried carafe wine which is very tasty. The murals upstairs is also very cool.
