I want to express my deepest regret of stepping foot inside this food lion on 9/29/2026. As I was checking out, I wanted to use my company credit card as supposed to my personal card. The card has no pin number so I should have just been able to press the green button to bypass. However it was not working and the cashier on register 3 was super patient and nice but you can visibly tell she was brand new, plus I hadn't seen her there before. As she was struggling to get the machine to work and the line was wrapped around the building; she flagged down an older Caucasian female wearing a food lion vest, black hat, heavy eye makeup, and red and black hair pulled in a pony tail. I thought great, someone in leadership. this quickly turned into a horrible experience. She came over to the keypad, no greeting, and just started pushing buttons on the keypad. She never looked at me only the cashier and said verbatim "Well if it doesn't work, it doesn't work!" "nothing we can do about it, it's not our problem." I was in utter disbelief!!! Like lady, "you do know you work here right?" It's literally your job to help customers. Looking back at all the other individuals in line; I thought to myself, "if I show out in here and let this lady have it" how is that going to look on me or better reflect on my community? This is the only thing that saved her from the cursing out she deserved. If this had been about 5 years ago; I would have been shutting this food lion down! thank god I have grown in my personal and professional life. Not all people of color act outrageously in public places. That brings me to the next topic. After using my personal card so not to hold the line up, I went over to Customer Service to ask another worker for a manager or someone in leadership. To my surprise the rude, unprofessional, deplorable lady with the red and black hair was there, and ringing up customers with her light off of course. As I waited she had the nerve to ask me "did it ever work?" it took everything in me to hold my composure. I replied "yes" the young lady on #3 took care of me. I ended up speaking to the store manager about all of this. I'm not sure what will be done or how it will be addressed. What I do know is that I remember years ago when a good friend of mine, a beautiful Hawaiian spirit both inside and out by the name Melissa use to be the customer service manager at this location and this would never happened on her watch! We have to be very careful in the current climate we are in and how we represent ourselves in the workplace. Especially at this particular location as it is in a more rural/urban area of North Charleston. Not all customers are going to be so poised when faced with an individual that doesn't look like them treats them poorly. There definitely needs to be some accountability and re training of how this is represented. We have to remember "its not always what it is, but what it looks like." Clearly she missed the memo! I want to thank the young lady on #3 as she was so overwhelmed with the rude guest in front of me. She was still nice to me and I hope she gets the support she needs being a new employee. I wish to never see, meet, hear or interact with this "Keisha" lady in this life or the next! Horrible representation of the brand!
