About

RestaurantSeafood RestaurantAmerican Restaurant
Islander 71 is a nod to the easy going beach life of the Isle of Palms in the 1970’s. Taking you back to when kids rode bikes freely, Dads drank beer on the beach and Moms sunbathed to a golden brown. Afternoons were spent crabbing on the dock, or catching Reds at flood tide. Dinner was a gathering time for friends and family to share succulent seafood and fruity drinks. Laughter and good vibes were in the air as the sky turned into a mango sunset. Welcome to Islander 71.

We had a great rooftop water view! Time it right and get a beautiful sunset with your dinner. Food is honestly just your everyday Charleston seafood, but it is enjoyable! Drinks are reasonably priced for waterfront dining.

We had an amazing and delicious dinner tonight! The skillet crab dip was a great start followed by our delicious seafood dinners. My husband had the swordfish dinner, I had the crab dish dinner and our son had the Steak Frites dish. Madison our server was the best! She is friendly, professional and knows all about the dishes there. We definitely will be back.

So we booked a reservations for 12 and got and 8:45. We get here early and 70% empty. The order drinks and are told at 9:00 that the kitchen closes at 9 and we need to order now or not have dinner. They took the reservation at 8:45 and didn’t even tell us when we walked in. Then we get one drink and no offer for a second. Then we sit no drinks no food, and they are sweeping the floors and cleaning the restaurant. Dry and napkins on the table and no bill. So we either dine and dash or wait for check to leave. Unbelievable, oh and mandatory 20% because of party size. And I read not splitting bill on tables over 8, let’s see if they split it.

We’ve never been to Isle of Palms before. Found this hidden gem and I can say it did not disappoint. Julianne was our server and by far the best one there. She was very responsive to all of our needs and checked-in with us at appropriate time intervals. Additionally, the food was absolutely amazing! Check out the pics, but note these are just a couple of the excellent plates. The views were great as well (I think the photos will give you an idea of that!) along with the shrimp, which I believe is caught and prepared locally.

Major Health Code Violations by bar staff I’ve visited Islander 71 twice now, and both times I witnessed serious health code violations from the bartenders that I can’t ignore. During my most recent visit, I was served a drink in a visibly dirty glass. When I flagged it and asked for a replacement, the bartender poured the liquor from my dirty glass back into the bottle to reuse it — rather than discarding it. This is a blatant health and safety violation and shows a troubling disregard for basic sanitation standards. This wasn’t an isolated incident — I noticed similar carelessness on a prior visit as well. Given the pattern, I don’t think this was a one-off mistake but rather a sign of how the bar operates behind the scenes. I wanted to like this place, but I can’t in good conscience recommend it until these practices change. I’d encourage management to retrain staff on basic glassware and liquor handling procedures, and I’d encourage other patrons to keep an eye on how their drinks are prepared.
