Yesterday, I came to Greenwood to get groceries and an oil change. I’m a teacher, and since it’s Teacher Appreciation Week, I saw that Chick-fil-A was honoring teachers by giving away a free chicken sandwich. The advertisement clearly stated May 6–12 with a valid teacher ID required.
I pulled into the drive-thru line, and the young employee helping me (I believe her name was Makaleigh or something similar) confirmed the promotion. She told me I needed to add my teacher ID through the Chick-fil-A app. She was very friendly and helpful, but because cars were pulling in behind me, she told me to continue to the window.
At the window, I again explained that I was a teacher and wanted to receive the sandwich as advertised. The employee at the window wasn’t sure how to upload the ID either, so she sent the manager out to help.
The manager informed me that they could not give me anything that day, even though it was May 6, because I first needed to register my ID. Again, I asked how to do that. I had to go into my Chick-fil-A profile, use a third-party verification service, verify my email, and then provide my teacher certification number. That is not something I just carry around with me, so I finally said, “Don’t worry about it. Let’s just call it a day.”
Before leaving, I tried one more time to show her the advertisement, which clearly stated May 6–12 with a teacher ID required. I showed her my valid ID and asked again, “So you’re not going to honor this today, even though the promotion says it starts today and I’m showing you my ID?” She apologized repeatedly, but still said no.
It is beyond frustrating that not only would Chick-fil-A fail to honor its own advertisement, but also make the process so unnecessarily difficult. Meanwhile, at McDonald’s in Saluda County, they simply looked at our teacher ID cards, gave us a drink and a biscuit, and even threw in a hash brown.
I attempted to contact corporate Chick-fil-A last night since this is an issue bigger than a local franchise, but their website simply sends you back to the customer service contact page if you did not make a purchase—which I was not about to do. So, I’m leaving this review here instead.
Shame on you, Chick-fil-A.
