  I am writing to report an extremely disappointing experience my fiancé had at your Food Lion store while completing an Instacart order. He entered the store before the 10:00 PM closing time, around 9:53 PM, and only needed to purchase two items. As he walked toward the aisle, an employee who identified himself as a manager told him, “We close in 3 minutes.” My fiancé respectfully replied that he only needed two items, located them in less than a minute, and proceeded directly to the checkout. By the time he reached the front, the self-checkout registers had already been closed, leaving only one cashier. There was a couple ahead of him with a full cart, and another customer waiting behind him. While everyone was waiting in line, the same manager singled my fiancé out and told him he had to leave. My fiancé calmly explained that he only had two items and was already waiting in line. The manager then threatened to call the police if he did not leave. What made this situation especially upsetting is that this demand and threat were directed only at my fiancé. The other customers were not told to leave, nor were they threatened with police involvement. As a result, my fiancé was forced to cancel his Instacart order, which negatively affected his shopper metrics and his ability to earn income. He was simply trying to complete a small order to help support our household. We understand that employees are eager to close the store at the end of the night, and we respect store hours. However, customers who enter before closing should be treated with professionalism and respect. Threatening to call the police on someone who was already inside, had only two items, and was waiting peacefully in line is unacceptable. We ask that this incident be reviewed, including any available security footage from that evening, and that appropriate coaching or corrective action be taken if warranted. We hope no other customer or delivery shopper has to experience this type of treatment. Thank you for your time, and we look forward to your response.
