Truly the best meal I have had in ages! Came for date night and will absolutely be back. All of the food was absolutely amazing! Isaiah was our server last night and he really made the experience special. A really amazing person and his service was stellar! We couldn’t decide what we loved the most but if I had to pick I’d say the Bao Buns and the Crudo but everything we ate was stunning! So many other amazing options on the menu that we wanted to try so we will definitely be back soon! Thank you for a truly amazing night!!!

The best meal we had in Charleston. The uni toastettes and Toro rib skewers were actually my favorite. We also had tuna, edamame, chicken fried rice, sashimi and I can't even remember what else. Everything was fabulous!!

Absolutely Fantastic Find — Shokudô is Now Our Family Favorite! We popped into Shokudô on a Sunday evening with our young family and no reservation, and they happily accommodated us right away. From the second we walked in, the staff was an absolute joy. They were incredibly attentive, cheerful, and clearly working as a seamless team. They were running food, expertly finishing and plating dishes, answering every question with a smile, and genuinely making sure every single one of us had an amazing experience. The Sunday vibe was perfect too! A live DJ was spinning chill 45s of down-tempo lounge music that created such a relaxed yet lively atmosphere. It felt special without being stuffy. The whole family loved it. But the food, wow, it was next-level delightful. Every ingredient felt thoughtfully chosen and everything was prepared with such meticulous care. We started with the Chisai (Small Flight) — one of each skewer — and it was such a pleasant taste journey. Each one had its own unique, delectable flavor. Our kids especially devoured the Kamo Tsukune duck meatballs, the juicy Toro Beef short rib, and the beautiful Gindara black cod skewers. The whole table went crazy for the “Shaka Shaka” Yuca Fries. The fun tableside preparation made it even better! Mid-course we also enjoyed the Spicy Maguro and Hamachi Temaki hand rolls. The presentation was a nice touch of class. The sautéed Aona bok choy was cooked perfectly with a lovely sauce that had just the right touch of chili. Flavorful but not too hot. We finished the savory courses with the OG Ramen. The rich, slow-cooked broth and tender pork chashu were outstanding. To cap off the night we enjoyed a beautifully balanced jasmine tea served in a proper teapot alongside the incredible Passionfruit Cheesecake Parfait. They even surprised us with Japanese shaved ice (not on the menu) as a special treat. It was so refreshing and delightful! We’re so glad we discovered Shokudô. The food, service, and vibe were all perfect. It’s definitely going to become our new regular family spot. Highly, highly recommend!

I wanted to like this place more because the atmosphere is great, the bartender was friendly, and the hamachi crudo was excellent. Unfortunately, the yakitori was a major disappointment. We ordered the yakitori skewer set, and nearly every skewer was underwhelming. Even worse, they were served lukewarm instead of coming out hot off the grill. If you’re expecting traditional Japanese yakitori, this isn’t it. For the price, I expected much better execution. The service was genuinely good, but the food—especially the restaurant’s namesake grilled skewers—didn’t justify the cost. Two stars feels fair based on the overall experience.
