Just very mid. I was expecting a fancy Japanese / sushi place. I got an upgraded strip mall joint. The food was fine, although my sashimi / nigiri selection had some pretty crummy tuna for the price. I guess overall it was fine for the money, but it’s more like an upgraded pf chang rather than a high end Japanese restaurant.

O-Ku is hands down the best sushi restaurant in Charleston. We’ve been dining here for years, and for the past two, it has been the only place we go for sushi. The menu has evolved several times, yet every version has been just as impressive, if not better than the last. Alyssa has taken care of us on several visits, and she consistently provides exceptional service and makes each dining experience memorable. From the food to the cocktails, everything is always outstanding. O-Ku is truly a Charleston staple.

We ate at the O Ku in Alys Beach last month and it was one of the top five best meals of my life. Service was outstanding and every dish we tried was amazing. I was so excited to learn that there was a location in Charleston. It was the exact opposite of our Alys beach experience. Our server seemed put out with every request we made, especially asking for a straw. She looked at me like I had three heads. Food came out at random intervals, drinks took forever, and dessert even longer. I think I could’ve cooked it myself faster. Maybe I was too excited & held it up the other location’s standard. But honestly when the server is bothered when you ask for a straw or lemon, that’s not a great dining experience. Hopefully other restaurants in Charleston show more hospitality.

Customers since 2017. I would say tonight’s visit was a bit disappointing. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was excellent. The food disappointed overall, but I must say the dumplings were excellent. The disappointment came from the menu . We remember ordering regular maki rolls, but the menu only lists specialty maki rolls. We mentioned this to our server who said they could make us whatever we wanted. We ordered 4 specialty rolls and honestly the only one that was tasty was the Angry Salmon. A manager later spoke to us about it and said the DO offer regular maki rolls but they just don’t appear on the menu. We suggested that they add that statement to the menu! We like wine but we also think it should be served in a nice wine glass, one without a rolled rim. The rolled rim plays a role in the tasting experience. Please order thin rimmed wine glasses! The wine flows more smoothly in a thin rimmed glass, seriously. If we’re paying O-Ku prices, we should get thin rimmed glasses. O-Ku is meticulous about everything else! Bring the wineglasses up to that standard. Some people don’t care, but wine lovers want the correct glass.

What a delightful meal. Celebrated an anniversary here; all of the staff was very welcoming. Started off with two cocktails, both were fantastic. The sticky rice appetizer was super fresh, good portions, and really delicious. We had an assortment of some sashimi and a sushi roll. The lemon salmon roll was amazing! Salmon had some skin still on it and was a little fishy but the lemon really balanced it out. The usuzukuri was delicious; a few pieces of salmon with truffle ponzu and black salt. For dessert, we tried the Honk Kong Sando at the recommendation of our server. He said it was the best dessert the chef had ever made, and he’s spot on. It was possibly the most amazing dessert I’ve ever eaten. Overall we really enjoyed the meal, felt very taken care of, and enjoyed the special occasion.
