- PNPatsy NicklasJul 19, 20265.0Absolutely a must for anyone who wants to dine at a top tier restaurant in Charleston. Brasserie la Banque, appropriately named, was opened in an old bank building on the corner of Broad and East Bay. Decor has a lot of the original bank features, and I remember that bank very well. There are interesting menu choices, including a starter of escargot in dreamy cream garlic broth (would love to have this with mussels) and a more typical baked brie but baked with a hint of lemon and served with crostinis, figs, walnuts and olives. Divine. The brioche bread tasted like it came straight from being baked at a French boulangerie. You’ll find your “typique” Bistro entree of Steak Frites but our table ending up choosing a variety of different main courses. The Poisson du jour was a fresh market fish that had a lovely encrusted breadcrumb coating and was baked with grape tomato and mushroom reduction, it was cooked to perfection. Gnocchi Parisienne, french comfort food in a bowl, was well received as was the Canard Magret with peach reduction and peaches, that was A++ according to the recipient. The wine list was on par with a bistro and had some nice selections and there was also specialty drinks list. The wine pour was not stingy. The dirty martinis were declared one of the better ones had by our dining companions. Service was excellent and professional. Top notch. I look forward to returning very soon.
