We used to adore their excellent pasteries and expertly crafted breakfast burritos. Stopped by and tried the new and sadly not improved food. Big downgrade....sad to see it but on the upside I have recreated the breakfast burritos! Along with the cashew vegan Chipotle sauce 😋 check out nextdoor for details.

This is THE BEST breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot in Beaufort. Dine-in, carry out, or Door Dash are all available. The menu is a thoughtful mix of pastries, beverages (the smoothies are fantastic!), salads, sandwiches (the new BBQ Chicken is amazing), and grab and go options. The new bakery in the back features such delicious cakes and treats. One can even call and order a whole cake for a special celebration with advance notice. I was so glad to see this place on the cover of the Island News this week! Herban Market and Cafe deserves the recognition! OH! Did I mention the view during my al fresco dining?! Tension just falls away.

This is not the same Herban Market & Cafe that earned the reviews people are still seeing. The previous owners built a place people trusted, especially people with vegan, gluten-free, allergy-conscious, and health-focused needs. They earned that reputation through quality, care, and a menu that actually served the community it claimed to serve. The current ownership seems happy to keep the name, the rating, and the benefits of that reputation while offering a much cheaper-feeling, less thoughtful version of the business. Their responses to disappointed customers are also telling. Instead of acknowledging that people relied on what this café used to represent, they dress the downgrade up as a “new direction” and talk about “consistency” and “sustainability.” From the outside, it reads like cost-cutting with better vocabulary. People are not upset because they hate change. They are upset because this business is still wearing the old café’s reputation like a costume while serving something that no longer matches it. If the new owners want to run a different kind of café, fine. But they should earn their own reputation instead of coasting on the hard work of the people who made this place worth reviewing in the first place.

I want to update bc my last review was somehow removed? I grew up in Beaufort and we used to love this place. Actually came here after my dad’s funeral and the sandwiches were huge with sides of fresh fruit and the coffee was stellar. But the baked goods were the star - I actually would drive over an hour each way after we moved father out of town. But the new owners have ruined it. The old pastry chef was absolutely incredible and we miss her so much. I’d crave the pastries until the next time - AND they have GF and VG options even though I’m neither. They didn’t use seeds oils and cooked w real fats. Now it’s a mess. The portions are tiny and the baked goods are sad at best. The last time we went in will stay the last time unless they make some serious changes. I pray the new owners take note of what residents and visitors think and make the correct changes or their business is going to go bust.

The line was a little long but that's to be expected at such a great establishment! I highly recommend you stopping by!
