  I ordered the manicotti with a side of meatballs to go. Hands down the best Italian I have had in a very long time. I am from out of town but will 100% re-visit the next time I am here. Also, even though I had a to-go order the staff were great, very friendly and efficient.

  I was told to eat at this place and how amazing the Hill experience is. I finally did and I’ll describe it for you, here. You fight your way through narrow streets that allow two way traffic AND cars to park on both sides, meaning there is not enough room for two cars to actually pass when going opposite directions. So lots of traffic backups. Mama’s has ZERO parking. No lot. No designated spaces. You finally park three or four blocks from Mama’s. After walking in the elements to the restaurant and telling them you have a reservation they give you a wobbly table in the musty smelling basement on a damaged chair. The ceiling has old brown water spots on it. The ceiling is so low in many spots the waiter guides you with regular warnings about where to duck to avoid hitting your head. The basement is largely unadorned. It is also crowded and hot. You order one of their ludicrously priced dishes, like $16.99 for spaghetti with red sauce. This does NOT include meatballs or anything. That’s extra. Spaghetti with red sauce costs them probably $1.35 per plate and they charge $16.99. This is a 1,158% markup. With tip and taxes this is $25 for $1.35 worth of spaghetti and red sauce. Ok, maybe the flavor is mind blowing and otherworldly? Maybe that justifies the price, lack of parking, and awful ambiance? I have eaten at places where everything is bad BUT the food is so amazing it more than makes it worth it and I will put up with the nonsense just to get the privilege of eating there. This is not one of those places. It’s pretty good. No better than many other Italian restaurants with much better ambiance and parking. I’ve made better spaghetti at home than Mama’s on the Hill. The service was speedy, I’ll give them that. But speedy service for mediocre food and bad ambiance does not make it worth it. That’s it. That’s Mama’s on the Hill. Zero parking. Terrible location. Funky basement seating. Laughably marked up food that is not bad, but not worth the markup. The only reason this place is in business is because people believe the hype and keep paying them $25 for $1.35 worth of mediocre spaghetti and red sauce to sit in a musty basement and park four blocks away. I will never go here again. Speak with your wallet, people. Stop propping up terrible restaurants and they will get better or be replaced with a better restaurant. Simple as.

  I had been looking forward to trying mama's for quite some time. Toasted ravioli meh 5 out of 10. Salad 5 doesn't compare to zias They don't offer tutto mare. That was a disappointment as well. Ordered linguine diavolo. It was ok. Definitely could have used more of the seafood and the pasta was a little undercooked. Wife said tortellini was good. Not sure there was anything on the menu that would bring me back. The food wasn't terrible it was just okay. there are way better restaurants on the hill.

  We were really excited to eat here because this place had really positive reviews and we were very disappointed with our service. Overall the restaurant was clean and well decorated and did a good job managing their wait for guests. Seating was crowded and not particularly comfortable inside the restaurant. The wait time was reasonable for Saturday night at 7:30pm. The wait staff however were not friendly. The hosts were not friendly, the buser was not friendly and our waiter was incredibly rude. We sat down and waited for our server to take our drink order and ultimately decided we would rather not wait for drinks and would just stick with the water the buser brought us when we were sat. When we told the server this, he got an attitude and walked away without taking our order. He came back anout 10 minutes later to take our order. While taking our orders he told one of our party members that her meal came with a salad and asked if she wanted a house salad or a Ceasars salad. When taking my order he asked what side I wanted, I asked him what came in the vegetable medly, he said it was broccoli, squash, zucchini, mushrooms and onions. After taking our order he left our table and didnt come back for some time. We eventually stopped him and had to ask him if we were able to get bread or if we needed to order it. He had an attitude with his response and said yeah I was going to bring you some. This wouldnt have been off putting if it hadn't been for the tone he used and the fact that he had been standing with other servers just talking for quite awhile despite the restaurant being busy. He eventually brought us bread, the bread was okay but not great and nothing I would look forward to. When the food came, the buser set down all the food while our server stood off to the side and talked to another staff member. After the buser set all of the food down, the server noticed that the buser put a side of pasta on the table that we didn't order and the server scolded the buser and said this is for a different table why did you give it to them, picked it up off the table and took it somewhere else which was concerning from a cleanliness perspective given that we had already touched it. The food generally was good, the chicken for the Ceasars salad was very dry and tough and hard to eat. Flavor of the food was overall good for the parmagiana and the penne ala vodka. The entree salads were the same size as the side salads but more than double the price. The server did not mention that the vegetable medly was 50% bell pepper. Upon receiving our bill, our server told us he was unable to split our bill which was never mentioned or stated anywhere and was rude to us when telling us he could not split the bill. He walked away, eventually we flagged him down again asked about a charge for an extra side salad on our bill and he said that the salad with the penne Ala vodka was an up charge. This was shocking to us because he told us when we ordered that that meal comes with a side salad and asked our party member who ordered it if they would like ceasar or house salad then when we pointed that out he said, very rudely, well its in the menu so... and then walked away. We ended up eventually going up to the host stand to pay because he never came back to take our payment and the host then went to get him to ring us out. The host seemed annoyed we came up to the host stand to pay. There was no one at the host stand or in line for the host stand as at this time the restaurant was mostly empty. We waited up at the host stand while our server stood back by the entrance to the kitchen laughing with his coworkers. Our servers name was Conor O. Overall I would not reccomend this restaurant based on our experience and would not be willing to return

  This place is nothing short of Excellent. The food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is very much what we envisioned when thinking about an Italian style restaurant. Our server Liliana was incredible and was very attentive. We ordered the Seafood Linguine, indicating that my wife and I would be splitting it, and she had the kitchen staff put it into two separate bowls. That's service!! If you're in the area and are into authentic cuisine, make it a point to stop by and live this experience. You will NOT regret it.
