Unfortunately I don’t often leave a negative but our waiter was rather rude/short/hasty in regards to taking our order, seemed like he was having a bad day is possibly the reason but it just put a dampener on the late lunch we randomly decided to have. We reflected our disservice in his tip. Nothing like it was but it’s been a very long time. We won’t be back again as there are many options in the area. It was on a Monday and slow as well.

This was a great, local place tucked in the neighborhood. Street park, so may have a little walk. Salads were really good. The house dressing is great. Portions were big and the food was flavorful. They only knock was the surcharge for sharing an entrée, so be aware.

Mama says I always been one of our favorite restaurants. But we went there yesterday to celebrate a family birthday and we were seated in the basement, which is very dark. Our female waiter was superb. Very attentive and very professional. The minestrone soup is the best I’ve ever had. My pasta with shrimp was so so. Other family members loved their steaks and fettuccine Alfredo.
The only downside was, we felt very rushed to eat and Leave. They are one of the few Italian restaurants on the hill that is open on Sunday And so it was very crowded and noisy by 5 PM. I will continue to go there because I love it, but will probably avoid going on a Sunday in the future.
We came in on a Sunday for lunch. I will say it felt like you walked into an Italian mamas house for sure. We were seated right away. There was my family of three and my wife's cousin and husband. Figured right off the get go we let the server know we would like two checks. He informed us that they do not do that they do one check per table. Didn't think of it at first but ok. We looked at the menus, while we did that another young man brought use our bread and oil, and also water. Our server came and took our orders. I got the Linguine Diavolo. Let me tell you when someone else not our "server" brought out everyone's meals, mine was a show stopper!. as it came thru the restaurant i could see everyone stopping and looking in awe. The presentation was amazing!!!!!! The smell was amazing as well. First bite was good and then the spice hit. It said on the menu it was spicey marinara. I figured it couldn't be that spicey. Its Italian spicey not Mexican or Chinese spicey. Let me tell you that spice hit my lips, shot thru my mouth and into the back of my throat and lite me on fire!!!!!. The taste of the sauce and the seafood was great but the spice took my breath away. It made it to where i could not enjoy the dish as all. I was able to eat the seafood but the pasta in the dish i just couldn't, I tried and maybe ate a third of it. Next surprise came with the bill and we learned why they would not split our bill. Since we were a party of 5 they put 25% gratuity on it. I will say our server did not deserve this amount of tip, and you could tell he did not care at all. As he was going to get a great tip from our $200 bill. That just did not set right with me. As i talked with my wife i really hope they all have to split the tips because the other young man was way more helpful and polite than our server. If i could have i would have gave him our servers tip and then some.

We stopped at Mama’s on the Hill for lunch while visiting St. Louis, and it ended up being one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had!
Our server, Raymond Lee, was absolutely AMAZING. He was so sweet, bubbly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel like we were old friends catching up. He checked on us often without ever being overbearing, and his personality alone made our visit memorable.
I was originally leaning toward ordering something completely different, but Raymond recommended the lobster ravioli. I am so incredibly glad I took his advice because it was, without exaggeration, one of the most delicious meals I’ve ever eaten. It was rich, creamy, flavorful, savory, and the portion size was incredibly generous.
He also recommended the toasted ravioli, and wow… it absolutely lived up to all the hype! It was perfectly cooked and so delicious.
I really hope Raymond and his manager see this because exceptional service like his deserves to be recognized. He made our lunch so much more than just a meal—he made it an experience. The food was phenomenal, but Raymond is the reason we’ll make it a point to come back the next time we’re in St. Louis.
Thank you for such an unforgettable experience!
P.S. please forgive me for not including a picture of the lobster ravioli. As soon as I saw the plate, I dived right in and didn’t come up for air 😬
