We stopped here on our drive home as an overnight travel stop, and when we saw Houlihan's my wife got excited. We used to regularly visit the Garland, TX location before it closed, and she absolutely loved their scallops. This was her first chance in a long time to order a dish she thought she'd never get to enjoy again.
We visited on a Monday around 8:00 PM, and the restaurant wasn't busy. Unfortunately, from the time we were seated, something just felt a little off. The hostess kindly brought our drinks, but it was about five minutes before our server came to take our order.
The Chicken Avocado Egg Rolls were delicious and easily the highlight of the meal. However, the spinach dip was nothing like what we remembered from Texas and wasn't very good. The chicken nachos also missed the mark, and we ended up leaving most of them.
My wife ordered the scallops, and while she said they were good, they just weren't as flavorful or memorable as the version she used to enjoy. My mother ordered the lettuce wraps, which took a while to come out because our server said they were looking for good lettuce. I appreciated that they cared about quality, but unfortunately the seasoning was so overpowering that she took one bite, started coughing, and couldn't eat any more. To their credit, they immediately removed it from the bill without any issue.
I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked well and tasted good. Unfortunately, the broccoli was brown and didn't seem fresh, and the mashed potatoes tasted like they had been sitting for quite a while, so I didn't eat either. We also had to ask for extra ice because the sweet tea kept coming out warm instead of iced.
Overall, we ate what we could and made the best of it. I probably would have shared more feedback during the meal, but our server seemed overwhelmed and scattered between tables. There were definitely some bright spots, especially the egg rolls and the customer service when they handled the lettuce wraps, but overall the meal was inconsistent. I'm giving it 3 stars and hope it was just an off night.
