  One of our favorite casual dining experiences in north KC. Good bbq, I usually get the burnt heaven burger. The burnt ends here are cubes and might require additional sauce for the best flavor. For appetizer, my go to is the avocado salad which is topped with cranberries and walnut and he cheesy hush puppies. Good adult beverage selection as well. My husband usually gets the cheese steak and burnt ends (4oz). We love the wings, they are so good! The peach bread pudding is so good, we have to get 1 each. Their burnt end chili is the best! Smokey and flavorful.

  Cool spot, great neighborhood. Rude bartender. As soon as I walked in I was spoken to as if I had done something wrong. The greeting was defensive and unwelcoming. Very shaming attitude. I ordered a beer and she asked if I wanted to start a tab and I asked her if there was a hold of a certain amount for tabs. Sometimes places do a $10 or $25 hold until u close it, and sometimes those don't fall off for a day or two. She said no. Well, there was a $10 hold on my $5.50 beer. So I told her so that I could then I could ask if they release those that day or what, so i could know when I get that money back. She left no room for conversation. She just blamed me and said it must be my bank. No. Banks don't initiate charges, the establisment does. But she clearly wasn't a person willing to discuss this. Which is fine if she was mistaken, but the way I was spoken to and treated, as if "I" was wrong and some kind of Karen or shameful person for trying to figure it out, I don't appreciate. Her attitude toward me was disrespectful. Just rude. Won't be back.

  What an incredible place. I cam here at noon saturday, when there were several other parties and events going on, and yet the staff was courteous, understanding, and quick to respond. The host and manager worked together in order to quickly get through a line, without either host or manager getting angry at one another. They accommodated my needs quite well, and reached a working compromise quickly and without any beating around the bush. And this is at one of the busiest times, during an event, during a perfect day, wanting to get an outdoor spot. As a walk in. In *those* circumstances the wait time was only 20 minutes, which was perfectly accurate, not over, nor under what they expected the wait to be. Once i was seated, within a minute Lauren my server had arrived to ask me what I needed, and was happy to put in two appetizers for me despite me being just seated. The entire time she was active, helpful, and willing to answer my questions. The atmosphere was beautiful, not too loud, not so quiet that it feels uncomfortable to laugh. Eithin view i could see people enjoying life, playing pickle ball, and generally having a nice time. I could not recommend this place more. It may cost a bit more than average for its food but it gives it all back and more in its quality, portions, and atmosphere. People often talk about 'the best bang for your buck.' But I would consider happiness to be my metric for the bang, not amount of food. And every time i've been here, its given me the best bang for my buck in all of kansas city. If you like barbecue, this is a must stop by. There is no better representation of true kansas city style barbecue than Char Bar. Affordable, for the people, and never skimping out on quality. A perfect balance, never forgetting its purpose.

  Char Bar does great BBQ. From the warning on the menu noting items that don’t contain meat, to the fun outdoor area where you can play yard games and even pickle ball Char Bar excels. But this is Kansas City and we’re talking BBQ so none of the other details matter if you aren’t nailing the food. Thankfully, Char Bar is nailing the food. The sausage is tender and flavorful, The brisket is ribboned and smokey and delicious. The sides are great and the appetizers terrific (do yourself a favor and order the cheesy fritters). I will say the sauces are just a smidge on the mild side for my tastes but I’m nit picking in the extreme

  This is the third time that I've gotten dried out brisket. I literally could not eat it. Their barbecue sauce is so watered down, when I tried to put some on there to moisten it up, it just made my bun mush. I stepped aside on my way out to talk to a manager. I didn't want to say anything in front of other diners. I told him this was the third time that I've gotten dried out brisket from them and he said "that's never been my experience " I showed him the almost the entire brisket sandwich I could not eat in the to go box so that I could show him the meat being dried. He did offer to give me "another sandwich" and I said "why would it be any different than this one, he said "well I don't know that it would be any different" I told him just to keep it that I wouldn't be coming back. Such a shame because we live so close to this place but it will be our last time going.
